i dodnt think you have to as its not a performance mod

nope :p and 9 times out of 10 insurence companies will pile up the priemium if they know you have changed the wheels. It doesnt tend to be an issue though as police have pulled me over and not cared about any of my mods, aslong as i was insured to drive. its when u crash into somone, then they will get picky

Yes

And premium didn't even go up for me.

I get the impression most people don't even bother getting a quote to see if there's a difference, they just assume it's gonna double the premium and don't even bother finding out. And then drive their car around with insurance which could end up being absolutely worthless and therefore void. In other words illegal.

Doesn't have to be a performance mod.. a modification is a modification!

Wheels are one of the most obvious mods you can do, you need to tell your insurance company.

You should always declare new wheels (in fact every mod) though it wouldn't increase the premium with our scheme.

i always declare everything on my car as the police check my car for some reason with a fine toothpick better to declare it because if you crash and the insurance come out and find out you have something change from factory then they will make your insurance void and then points etc not worth the hassle

Not another one of these threads

If your with a decent company it wont cost you a penny

and if you change your wheels and dont tell your insurance then its void. end of.

If you do not know, which you obviously do not, it is best not to offer advice on a public forum.

Most specialist insurers will not charge extra for the majority of cosmetic modifications. You will not find specialist insurers on price comparison sites.

To clarfiy what has already been said, all changes to the vehicle from when it left the factory should be declared.

i only got charged £100 extra when i converted to a 20vt from a 1.4. ide never dream of not declaring anything. no point in paying for void insurance!!!

Shall i tell them i have 2 wheels changed atm :), Mot mode but need new tyres on both sets :D

Always tell, £30 to declare my Lows,

i changed my 6n 13" steels for vauxhall 14" steels for the fact that they were slight taller and slighlty wider more of a safety upgrade than a performance upgrade they dont make the car go any faster or stop any better just more vehicle to road coverage on bad roads so do i declare these ?? they're not alloys just 14" steels with a set of £15 wheel trims and i changed them when i scrapped my astra 5 good wheels and tyres weren't gonna go to waste

Surely the first thing to do would be to ring your insurer and ask them? As opposed to asking us how much it would cost us.

Most i have ever paid was £20 extra. Silly not to add it for that.

As a conversion?! :o Who are you with?

I know it sounds very silly but, if i have standard wheels declared and I'm wanting to spray them a different colour i dont have to declare it do i?

Personally i would declare them. Our scheme wouldn't be affected premium-wise but some insurers may decline to pay out in a claim situation!

Chris Knott quoted me over twice what I'm paying for my insurance.

That sounds like we didn't quote on the scheme then. Maybe due to the criteria.
