since i put a philj kit in my mk2f there has been a knocking noise coming from the front. just wondering if this is something i have to get used to or would it be anything needing tightening up. i tightened the top bolt up and hasnt helped. only other reason i can think of is because of the way the shock just sits in the strut there could be a small gap at bottem and its hitting off it? any help would be much appreciated thanks

checked your track rods/ steering arms aren't hitting anything?

Two main areas for this,really. As you say,it could be the damper isn't clamped down fully by the threaded retaining cap. If the damper looks a bit short to the top of the outer strut,a washer can work as a spacer. I've never needed one,just gave the cap some more twist.

The other is the top mount. They memory to fitment and dont like being moved. They also crush. Fitting new ones is usually essential yet still the retaining caps on top of the turret can protrude enough to thump the turret. Especially if they've lost their nylon ring (though not tightening the castle nuts properly will also do it).

Best answer to this is fitting Punto caps,as i have. Got them from a 53 plate. These have a thick rubber ring moulded onto them,and their dimensions are generally better for the Polo than the Polo ones!

lol sorry man but I'm a noob here. turrets and castle nuts?

my left side was a little loose when i put it in and i spaced it with a folded rag i had lyin about. its the right side the noise is coming from so i think i might put a spacer in it and see if it helps. if not then you will probably get a few PM's sometime this weekend lol. thanks allot

You also came up with the fitting of a rover rear arb to a polo iirc, how do find out this stuff just experiment?
