whats my cheapest option?

Featured Replies

hi all.

a few months ago i lost my only key for my polo (6n), i only have a part time job so i have money but i dont get alot so i was just wondering what my options are. could i just get a ignition barrel and key from another 6n (for example from a scrappy) and replace the original items? because I've heard getting a key cut from volkswagen is really expensive, is this true?

its just that i want to start it now and then to get some oil round the engine during the winter so it doesnt seaize.

thanks

Tom

Yeah that would w tour easiest option but you'd also need ecu and immobiliser box (under the steering wheel!) sounds abit drastic but would still proably be cheaper!

Check the breaking section out and ask nicely someone might come to your rescue!!!

Pepes got your answer there...youll need keys, ignition barrel and coil, transponder box, ecu & door & boot lock barrels

check the breaking section and ebay

youll also need someone to help you fit them as the barrels can be an arse ache

don't think you'll need ECU... Although not 100%

I agree with Panda, changing the ECU isn't required, also would cause lots more hassle as you'd need an exact match for model spec. The other parts are more universal, you don't need the coil from the ignition barrel but if it comes together its not a problem. If you do change the ignition barrel you'll need a new shear bolt, these are fairly cheap and easiest to get from a dealer.

The above two replies are correct, you wouldn't need an ECU or a coil, and if you are prepared to use separate keys for the doors and ignition, you won't need door locks either.

Regards.
