As title. Want to paint the calipers but can only find gash colours. Have some engine paint that's good for 150c, will it do? What's so special about caliper paint anyhow?

engine paint will work fine. be warned though, you need to get the calipers really clean before painting them.. if there is any brake dust trapped it will cause the paint to bubble (i learnt this the hard way!)

They're clean!! Have had the angle grinder/wire brush treatment, degreased and soakednjn vinegar for a week! I'll use some metal prep stuff too, and jobs a wobble! Shouldnloom good a they will match the engine colour!

engine block paint will be more than fine . i personally think they just overcharge for caliper paint ! its the same stuff just re packaged !

Hmm... I've had discs showing well over 400 deg C on my handheld temperature probe (which is as high as it will read) so it's safe to assume that a fair bit of that will soak into the calipers, so 150 may well not be enough.

we mix paint at work (work at motosave) and some crazy old bird got us to mix up some ford rs blue for her new white rs and she wa like its all good even though it not high temperatue paint.

been in recently and her calipers are still rs blue and she doesn't drive it slow

my mate painted the calipers on his astra sri with no prep work at all.. as in I don't think he even wiped the mud off them and the paint he used was some blue household emulsion from his shed!

that was about five months ago and the blue household emulsion is still holding on strong? in general though I would concur with the above and say hammerite..

I used VHT grey paint.. worked fine, but dont think i left it to dry long enough... went to a jetwash, and took a little off..

when i was cleaning them up, i noticed i had red carriers...this isn't standard..is it?

Sony really want to hammerite since younlomitrdnon colours, and it's going through the gun to avoid brush strokes. I figured they get hot, hence engine paint. I also think the caliper paint is resistant to brake fluid too. Don't expect to get too much of that on them!
