The 207 SW's got to go. Its gonna cost us a fortune. She's not happy,but then i told her she can have a Ferrari Mondial instead and it got her round to my way of thinking pretty sharpish..

Minor depreciation i can cope with. She misses her 306 so i showed her a 306 convertible and she's started loosing the love for the 207 rapid style. Then this got me thinking how id always wanted a 205 CTi and never bought one. She worries it wont take a pushchair but i think it will. A MK1 Golf cab wont but the 205 lid is full width. One thing's for sure,she's feeling it for the soft top idea.

Only issue is the seat space - we have a baby on the way,and two teenage kids. We wouldn't be seen dead in a people carrier or 4x4 we're not paranoid sheep. But we do actually need to fit in the thing,and these cabs tend to be four seaters.

She likes Peugeots but I'm also looking at E30 cabs,dunno what else though? Anyone wanna give me some inspiration and ideas? I've never looked into cabs before.

What's your budget?

MK3 Golf cab is almost as drab as an Escort/Astra cab and bringing one home would absolutely result in a domestic crisis.

Its rare we're all in the same car at the same time. If two people can get in the back with a baby seat in the middle,thats fine. No difference beween a Corsa and Omega in that respect so size isn't important. A pushchair either goes in the boot or it doesnt. The kids dont come shopping with us,we dont need to carry a hotel about. The 205 cab is extreme,but an example of how small we can go with a fun car that's economical and wont depreciate in value.

Active safety is ever-increasingly important in these times of people driving 2-ton cars like wankers,but the passive safety is in that she doesnt crash cars,and carrying an extra half a ton of metal about everywhere just for Audi Learntodrive has proven against the ideal with the current 1400kg 207.

As I've said,the budget is nearly nothing - over a time period. Had i bought a Golf Clipper four years ago,it'd still be worth the same today. So its cost nothing. I've been paid to drive many cars,a good example was a Fiat Seicento Sporting which i bought for 1900, put 10k miles on it and sold 8months later for 2800.

Thats not likely to happen with an Eos, they're too new,depreciating. It'd probably be cheaper to run a '68 Mustang.. But i will look into it. And economy is as important as it being enjoyable,hence why a minibus or jap beast is far from ideal.

Initial outlay then? Thats where the liability comes in - i dont want more than three grand in the thing,tbh. A merc E220 or Saab 900 (proper ones Andy,not the rebodied Vectra nobody cares about) and paying a small fortune for a tail light and quarter panel that's been hit in the car park is no more desirable than it was last time. Obviously the Ferrari would fail here but it wouldn't depreciate so its worth considering a fair excess on a car that wont be written off for a cracked bumper.

She wont drive one though. For the same reason she doesn't want a modern BMW or Audi - she'll look like a idiot.

The E30 we can stomach the image of,particularly in a tasteful spec,unlike the E36 which can rarely be found with any class or dignity reflecting in it these days. Neil,i have to be a passenger in it..

apparently for the 1st year after i was born, i was transported around behind the seats in a triumph tr6. people are too overprotective these days

^^ when i was four my dad drove an Austin Seven (MK1 Mini). His next car was a Hillman Imp. Then he met my mum who also had an Austin Seven. And when my mother was pregnant with me she regularly sat on the back of my dads bike - often at speeds over 100mph.

When i was an early teen he had an MG Maestro and she had a MK2 Fiesta 950cc Popular. My brother was born and his first several years were being transported in that Fiesta.

Guess what? We're both still alive. As with millions of others who were babies in 70s and 80s city cars.

I've always been critical of being forced by law to spend thousands of pounds and lbs and tax for airbags,tensioners,extra fuel etc i'll never use. But we're forced to by the corrupt euro governments.

The hype may have brainwashed millions today,but it aint brainwashed me. Maybe I'm complacent in my 19 years of driving,and the horror crash in my '80s XR3i i walked away from unharmed,to attempt to save the futile life of a man horrifically injured in the airbag equipped car i collided with,was just luck - but whatever,the car industry always needs mugs bailing them out.

Its thanks to those in wool that cars like the 205 CTi are affordable today,and that they will always be in demand and stay a sight on the roads lends the thanks to those who believe life is for enjoying.

So if we can deviate from a deeper questioning of my judgement as a parent and more on the question in hand,it'd be welcomed warmly - though all comments are welcome and points taken in and appreciated for their intent.
