i have a subwoofer in my boot and tbh it takes up nealry all my boot and its only a single one, does anyone else have this problem?

i wanna know if u can buy the sub boxes that go in the side of the boot? or if u just have to make them you-self?

Fair enough, a good headunit and speakers usually do the job for most people...Each to their own.

Pioneer make a pair of 10in shelf speakers,should give enough bass. Not tried them myself,mind.

i have some good square 6by9's in my parcel shelf there good vibe ones 650 watt each running off a 700 watt amp :)

but need more bass think i could just build my own subwoofer box but smaller then my current one?

The 6x9s that came with my old 6n where very bassy , Pretty much good enough although i brought a sub.

The sub just ads that little bit extra and allows me to put everything else on trebble and have the sub for the bass if you know what i mean.

I'm on standard comps in my 9n apart from the sub. If the in car speakers put bass though aswell it sounds distorted so i let the sub do the work.

my mate managed to build a stealth box himself for a 15" sub..was hidded pretty good tbf, considerin it was a smart forfour

you could always try a free-air sub woofer, i fitted one to a BMW E36 a while back, fiber-glassed the parcel shelf and mounted it. The boot becomes your box, the bass inst to shabby either considering the compromise.

you could but you will need to calculate the required volume for the sub using the subs data sheet, then design the box to fit were you want it.

also if you want a ported box they need to be even bigger.

if you want good sound quality you have to match the box to the sub.

or save the hassle and go with a free-air sub woofer lol :p

Download yourself a copy of winISD. Look round the internet and find a sub you like the look of which has all the Theille Small Parameters listed. Punch the numbers into winISD. (it's free) Then you can muck about with box volume, and it updates the frequency response curve in real-time.

The "I want a ported box" comment tends to actually mean a BIGGER box to get a decent frequency response. Honestly, a sealed box is easier, normally works out smaller, and as it rolls off more slowly at low frequency, actually tends to give you more usable low frequency extension.

winISD not only gives you box volume, but also external dimensions including allowances for different thickness board. From this, you could quickly decide on the exact response/box size compromise YOU want, (you get a SPL curve too, if that's more important to you) decide on the thickness of board you want it made from, then ring your local wood yard, and ask them for the board all cut to size. That way, everything'll be square, straight etc, then it's just a few minutes gluing/screwing it all together. If you want it to fit a contoured shape, it'll either involve some fancy woodwork, or fibreglassing, but by taking sections, you can still work to a pre-determined box volume.

Ultimately, for a smaller box, the no.1 trick is to get a smaller sub.

yeah i got mine off here, got it for £60 iirc, it would be easy to make your own using fibreglass and mdf! you even have the car to make the mould for it!!! hahaha!
