Now I know price comparison sites are rubbish anyway, and you get a much better deal from ringing round etc.

But I used to use them just to get a rough idea of how much it would cost me to insure a car I was considering buying. I tried this the other day and got ridiculous quotes (6.5k for a 6n estate!). So I thought I would conduct a little experiment.

I pay £2150 fully comp on a 1L 6n2, I'm 17 and passed my test in June. I just used the same details I used before, on my car, and the lowest quote that came out was £4000! For a 1L VW!

I don't really know the point of this thread, I just thought it would trigger interesting discussion. Has anyone ever taken on a quote from a comparison site? I can understand why they're so useless?

Good if your car is standard, you're 30 and you've got 10 years no claims.

For younger drivers, dont even bother! If i put my details into price comparison sites the prices are £1500 odd, my actual insurance is just over 300 quid.

my last years insurance (bought from price comparison website as was most cheapest) for a 1.4 astra, me 3 yrs NCB + boyfriend 3yrs NCB £297 third party.

Looking at quotes as mine runs out early January - cant find anything below £500 - third party!
