The Polo is officially unwell loosing compression and it's M.O.T. and insurance is about to expire. This was the the -18 degree temperature day!

This was the day I put it on the road back in Dec 07 and then in Summer 09..

So having just been dumped out of Uni instead of looking at a new power plant for it I whimsically decided to purchase the Scirocco. I have always really liked the look of them along with all the other early watercooled VW's and they seem more affordable. So with no income I max'd out the credit card jumped on a Mega bus to Sunderland and drove the car home in the first weekend of the snow, it's an 89 Mk2 EX engined carbed GT..

The paint looks good in the pictures having had a recent blow over but what is scary is that no body kit or even door handles were removed for the work! I still think it will buff up good once I sort out what can't be seen!

So basically I have yet another 80's car that will need some TLC. So I have next to nothing in terms of budget but I can weld and am lucky enough to have my own improved double garage/shop (note the Mk2 Golf shell, a long term project)..

It has M.O.T till the end of January if I can fund tax and insurance I'll drive it and gradually work through what needs done. Just praying that the body is good under the arch/body kit!

Don't know what is happening with the Polo. If an engine comes up for next to nothing I'll fix it up and have it as a second car depending on income and price of insuring both cars. I'm quite tall and am starting to find it a bit small TBH. It will need a number of other things sorted like clutch kit depending on whether a new five speed is found. It still has a lot going for it with good G40 brakes, GK inlet and DMTR carb. Although the worst case scenario would be selling these to fund the Scirocco. I'm not doing anything hasty having regretted breaking and selling other cars before.

Cheers, It's a 1.8. Would like to get my head round the Pierburg carb for once. Failing that try and get a DMTL sourced which should be easy to change over having done the whole DMTR conversion with the Polo.

I've just put an extensive thread up on the Scirocco register (see Red Dead Revolver), are you the same name on there? Is yours a carbed GT or are you injection? Looks good in silver. I am terrified of what is lurking under the arches.

I'm still trying to get my head round the workings and idiosyncrasies of this motor. It seems more Mk1 Golf than anything else which is good in terms of all the info on Club GTI. Trying to decide what to attack first before it's MOT at the end of January.

I old the one in the avatar a bit ago, it was a a Sapphire blue (very, very pale metallic) 1.8 GT. My next little job is a c-reg, bronze, GTL (no bodykit, small spoiler). It needs a fair bit though, it's basically a rolling shell at the minute. I've posted on your thread on there (Steve).

Yeah, Mk2 Roccos are derived from the Mk1 Golf, and Corrados from the mk2 Golf.

The biggest stupid idea in my mind is driving the waterpump from the aux belt (...like a golf), so it's worth renewing this as a precaution.

Sciroccos weren't built by VW, they were made by Karmann (along with the mk1 Golf cab), so the build quality is top notch on them, and they're very well rustproofed, but rot's well worth dealing with while it's still superficial.
