Hi all..

i have a 6n2 polo which just keeps having shit loads of problems but the latest one is when i go over speedbumps or uneven road surfaces etc it makes like a clunking/knocking noise on the passenger side suspension only... I've pushed the car up and down and you can hear it while doing this i put my hand on the spring and felt a knock everytime i pushed the car down. Also it seems really bouncy when steering etc and doesnt drive in a straight line no more. any help would be much appreciated :)

As you say that it is 'quite bouncy', it sounds as if the shock absorber has seen better days, (should be changed in pairs), but of course, this may or may not be the cause of the clunking/knocking sound.

If you can get someone else to bounce the front of of the car whilst you check out all of the suspension mountings, you should be able to locate the culprit. Check also for a possible broken road spring.

Sounds like it could be your wishbone this same problem happened to mine on the drivers side, if the wishbone in bent or damaged the bushed can come out of alignment and it makes things knock against each other when the suspension springs compress. If it is the wishbone it may have affected your tracking, has this happened? have a look at the wishbone or take it to a garage once you replace the wishbone (if it is damaged) you will need to get your tracking re-done. only a guess but i may be right. as i said i had the same problem and ended up replacing both wishbones which was slightly pricey.
