Hi all, my Polo was my 2nd car after my atrocious 1 litre 205 thankfully died, I've had this car over 5 years now, have covered about 60k and not had many issues apart from the gearbox went, water pump impeller shattering, and a gunked up idle control valve (which I stupidly lived with for 5 years until it gradually got unbearable, and then got it fixed for a measley £20!). It was starting to look very tired, which was a consequence of neglect on my part! So after stumbling on this forum a few weeks ago and seeing all the fantastic work people have done with their Polos, I thought I'd make my first foray into the world of car modification at the ripe age of 25.

Here's the list of what I've done....

6N2 rear lights

Clear indicators and side repeaters

Debadged grill

A good wash, polish and wax

Replaced rear wiper arm that some kind soul had snapped off!

New plates to tidy it up

Team Dynamics 15x6.5J wheels with 195/50/15 tyres

Remove towbar (anybody want this?)

K&N panel filter

Really pleased with the results so far, not going to do anything crazy, just w few more subtle mods.

Sorry to say mate i preferred it before tbh! Dont like the wheels and the 4x4 stance :/ Keep it up though buddy the colour is beautiful!

Looks good, but not a fan of the wheels, some different wheels and some coilovers and your sorted mate :)

if you really wanted to you could lower it a little bit but seeing as you've had it for five years i take it your not an enthusiast as such

You are right, I'm not much of a car enthusiast in general, vintage motocross bikes are my thing. I bought the wheels as they weren't much more than the new set of tyres I was in need of. I just thought it was about time I took care of it! I may lower it slightly, but my journey to work is on rough country roads, and speed bums galore, so I'm not sure it is wise!

Not sure whether I will fit them myself...seems straightfoward enough but just don't have the right tools. Might try and find somewhere local to me (Bath) to fit them. I have a set of uprated shocks (think they are Koni?) that I bought for cheap locally, so will use them rather than the standard ones, once I've given them a good coat of black paint.

As for people commenting on the wheels, they were uber cheap (less than £300 brand new with tyres), they're a bit different to the split rims and deep dish wheels most people have at the moment, and I thought they looked sweet on this Golf.

A moderate drop of 40mm or so and I agree it would look a lot better....but that will wait til after Christmas....I'm moving house so will need all the clearance I can get, with a car full of crap!

Does anybody know what colour the car is? It's either dragon green, or bright green (stupid name for such a dark colour!), it is definitely pearlescent. The sticker with the paint code has rubbed off. Thinking about picking up a 16v rear bumper, like the 8v front though. Have got some 40mm springs on the way. :)

I think yours is bright green mate (sorry lucy lol) I though mine was dragon green but I've been told by several people that its bright green.

Haha that's good then, as I bought a touch up kit in Bright Green to hide some of the scratches. Always thought it was dragon geen, but then would see pics of peoples dragon green cars and mine always looked a touch darker and pearlescent, but they're very similar!

And Krash I have ordered the springs (got some cash from the parents as a present for graduating uni), so they'll be on soon!

Haha if you lived around here, you'd know that parking in this city is absolutely terrible, and the bit of pavement outside my house will be occupied by someone else if not me! As for slamming it, I think my journey to work has at least 10 speed bumps...add to that the giant tyres I got with my wheels because I knew no better, and it would be a recipe for disaster! From pics I've seen, a 40mm drop all round on 195/50/15s fills the arches pretty well. Offset is 38mm as well so they should tuck under the arches nicely.

its your car at the end of the day, do what you feel is right... i just bought a dragon green 6n so look forward to seein what other people have to to inspire me.

i do agree with the coilovers.. no car looks good at standard height, plain and simply a car needs slamming...

but keep up the good work.

my ratrod 6n is on the drive, starting a new project soon, so I'm going for a less is more option this time.

Updating this for the first time in forever because I've actually changed something else finally! The car stayed as it was for a couple of years, but now I have BBS RA's in silver, some coilovers I need to fit, and have touched up some of.the bad paint work. Will add some pics!

Looks like its going in the right direction. Really like that colour and new wheels are a massive improvement. Look forward to seeing coilies on!

What sort of Vintage motocross you in to? Do you mean Evo machines or real bikes like BSAs, CZs or Maicos?

I race a 76 Maico 250, and last year I towed it about to the races in my dragon green 6n!
