CarbonImage, I suggest you should learn how to use capital letters at the start of sentences before you start to lecture people for not sticking a few comma's in!

Most of us have been there mate, it's a horrible situation. You just have to ring round eeverywhere you can, and keep ringing them! Say you've had cheaper quotes elsewhere, and even say they quoted you less before; just try to beat them down as much as possible. Alternatively you could try and put you and your mum/dad on a multi-car policy which is not fronting in any way ;)

my point exactly! and carbon image there was no need to insult me by saying lack of education, i asked a question so there was no need to be clever and sarcastic!

thanks mate i think i have found a good quote now and think I'm gona take it out :) thanks for all your help :)

The insurance companies are definitely getting wiser on the whole insurance fronting thing. A while ago when my old 6N2 was playing up my dad said he would insure me on his Touran and let me drive that for a while seeing as he had got a new car. He made a new insurance policy which him as the policy holder and me as a named driver and the quote came to £3900. Without me on the insurance it only cost him £550. I'm pretty sure the insurance company put the first price to discourage fronting seeing as my dad will have put down he has access to another car making it seem even more obvious.

Most of the people in my year used insurance fronting to get insurance cheap for the first year. I was one of the only male drivers in my year at school who actually paid for insurance the proper way which set me back £2200 on a 1.4 8v 6N2. The great thing is now after a years driving i have my own no claims bonus and can get reasonable quotes on far better cars (just got a 1.9TDi 9N and found my next years insurance is only going to cost £1270 fully comp). All of my friends on the other hand who have been fronting have no no claims bonus and are still getting rediculous quotes for them to have their own policy so have had to insurance front for another year many of them have even seen a rise in insurance costs. If you really can afford insurance then you shouldnt have your own car. Drive a parents car or something until you have some driving experience. You will be less likely to crash in a parents car as well because you know you parents would probably kill you if you did.

i suggest the main cause of your problem is lack of education. please go back to school and learn how to construct a legible sentence.

insurance is expensive. you should have got quotes before you got the car, you will probably need to sell it and get a 1l shitbox.

however there are a few things you can do, e.g. adding your parents as named drivers, or even getting a scheme such as admiral multicar with your parents. i would suggest declaring modifications though, as if you haven't declared them you may as well not have insurance at all (your insurance will be void).

all of this information probably could have been found in the paperwork section, which coincidentally is where this should have been posted.

have a pleasant day.

Say no more, nothing else to add!

If you dont have anything useful too say.. keep your comments too yourself. Thankyou :)

Maybe you should learn the correct use of apostrophes. :p

Insurance is indeed a crap subject right now. I used to be able to insure virtually anything for not a lot of money, I'm only 21, been driving since 17 and haven't paid more than a grand for anything, the closest was £700 or thereabouts for my 140 bhp BMW, and I was 19 at the time. I had recently been paying just over £400 to insure my Mk2 Golf GTI 16v, but due to certain circumstances this is no longer. Upon trying to get a reasonable quote to reinsure said car, I can't insure it for less than about £800 which although some people would love, it's a shock to me!

Thankfully, a 1.4 6n is still only gonna be £200 or so

i think every driver our age is having the same problem looking for insurance, except for the lucky buggers whos parents pay for it!

2 months ago i was in your situation, well nearly bit of a different car but still.. the best price i could find was with elephant and this was all mods declared on a gt converted mk2 coupe s for 2400! i wouldnt reccomend going on your mom or dads policy, but i would reccomend putting them on your policy. it bought mine down about 800 pound just putting that my parents might drive it now and then.

so anyway i took out this 3 grand loan so i could afford to insure my mk2 and then i was having second thoughts, instead i used my loan to pay for a 1971 beetle and now I'm paying 606 pound a year on a modified 1.6 twinport beetle, I'm not saying to take out a loan but i think clasic car insurance is definately something worth thinking about, thats if your in to older cars of course :)

if your under 24 and have a car over 30 years old and you are a member of a suitable car club,( the volkswagen owners club of great britain ) then footman james are happy to insure you! they're really good as a company too

I've found on quotes that no matter if I'm the main driver and policy holder with my dad as the named driver

or

the other way round, the quotes have been the same..

definatly advised whackin a parent on insurance to bring price down..

tesco value insurance is cheap.. go directly to tesco website..

dont use comparison websites, they rip you off.

my gti is insured for 1200 a year fully comp atm with churchill.. (directly)

i thought it would be fun to get a quote for my own car on confused.com with exactly same details as my current policy..... and said that cheapest quote was 5500... what a load of bullsh*t them websites are!

chears buddy ill give tesco a try :) thanks for your help :)

ok so i got my driving licence 2 years ago and took out my own insurance policy 6months ago on a astra 1.7td 98 r reg (i'm now 28) tesco's was the cheapest i found around the £800 mark the astra died so did the girlfriends policy on the polo so i thought how do get to drive the polo whilst the misses is still insured on it rang tesco's swapped my policy over onto the polo with the mrs as a named driver ( the polo is registered in her name ) me as the main driver and my insurance went down by £100 just by putting the mrs on the policy ( she's only been driving 18 months and shes 26) so she's driving her own car as a named driver is this wrong ? tesco's don't think so

Aslong as your policy is right that your the main driver it doesn't matter who the cars registered too

When i wanted a polo as my first car it was about the only small hatch i couldn't get fair quote on so i ended up with the car i least wanted a corsa but i got a 1.4 16v with cheaper insurance then most 1.0 small hatches :S

Also admiral multi car is good if your parents have cars, my mate got done for drink driving and gets insurance cheaper then me cos his parents have like 5 cars

as it states in big letters on the front of your log book... 'a log book is not proof of ownership.'

so no matter who's name is on the log book, if you try to make a claim and they suspect some kind of fraud is being commited they will investigate. The fact that the car was in your name and you tried to insure it as yours before switching it to your dad will also be on record (although i'm not sure how long that info is stored for?).

That will be on the v5 until it changes again at least as it has a previous owner section on it.

Also, quite a lot of insurers actually look at forums now to see what is going on. When i insured my car. the guy i spoke to said that they had started doing this so when people were trying to insure their 'standard' car they would sometimes check and find out that it had a totally different engine/a load of mods, then they would contact the owner and tell them they werent insured unless they paid the revised amount. So be honest! If you're not, its going to be annoying when you arent covered and you have thrown insurance money away for nothing.

Or just make sure you blank out your reg when posting up photos of a modded car? lol.

No but on a serious note, it's much better to bite the bullet and get the first year out the way, they will reward you for doing so and having a NCB at so young an age :)

Currently my mum's on my policy as second driver, brought it down by £200. I'll admit she was never likely to use it but, all it takes is a drive to the shops in it now and again for her to keep it all legal. :ninja:

Good advice, however there is no need to be such an arsehole.

i have took out an insurance policy in my own name which for some reason was cheaper than being on a policy with my mum or dad.

they are catching on with the fronting malarchy.

If people actually think that the insurance company are gonna believe that a bright orange modified shopping car with skirts and loads of crap all over it is the Dad's and not the son's car.... you must be mad. If you crash I bet you one of my balls you'll be done for fronting.

My 2p; buy a standard banger runabout and run that for a year, take out your own policy and build a years no claims. Then when you're 18 with a years no claims sort out the polo. If you can't afford to legitimately insure the vehicle, then in my opinion you shouldn't be driving it.

so is adding me onto my dads insurance on his van illegal then?

your basically trying to say that having named drivers on your policy, that are actually going to drive the vehicle is illegal :s

i dont get how it can be illegal being a named driver on your parents insurance with there vehicle.

It's in the wording, main driver implies the person who will be driving the vehicle the largest percentage of the time. So if your dad drives the van more than you do, then that's okay.

It's when parents insure a car in their name and the son/daughter drives it as their car that it becomes shady, normally in those cases the parent rarely, if ever drives the car and thus really isn't the "main" driver.

the insurance companies have to be able to prove whos driven the most miles then. they aint gonna mess about with that. they didnt with me when i wrote of my dads car. they didnt even ask me any questions. we just rang to make a claim and they made us offer job done! now there prob checking the log book or wotso but there not that clever.
