Guys,

The indicators quit today on the missus' 6N2 TDI. the hazard lights still work, and the park lights still activate when the key is out, checked the fuse and its fine.. from my experience with VW's its either the flasher unit or relay.. but i'm puzzled as to why the hazard lights still work fine.

Anyone shed any light?? also, a relay location would be helpful.

If the hazards work, it smells more like fuse or stalk fault.

Could also be system x relay (auxiliary power relay) or the harzard light switch, all worth checking but start with fuse first.

checked the fuse, its fine. hazard switch works and as stated above, the park light function on the stock works too.. so its either simply the stock that need replaced or a relay.. hopefully.

but if the relay was broke, would that not mean the hazards wouldnt work either?

i also have a 6n2 and mines does this especially when i am indicating left for some weird reason... anyways had it checked out and was told it was an indicator switch not to sure what that is or how to fix it. just thought i would add my 2p

There is no relay as such, the flasher relay is part of the hazard switch but as you having working hazards that sound OK. Power to the indicators comes via the auxiliary power relay via the hazard switch and then to the stalk on the steering wheel. It does sound like the stalk switch, however, it not east to change as you have to remove the steering wheel, so before doing this I'd make sure that is definitely the problem.

If you remove the covers around the steering column, three torx screws from underneath, you can get to the connector for the stalk switch. If you have a meter or test bulb you can check that current is getting to the switch and also see if the switch is working, you could even plug another stalk switch in temporarily to check that changing it will cure your problem.

Forgot to say, the parking light switch is a separate contact on the same switch block, just because that works doesn't mean anything for the indicators. I suppose if you don't use the parking lights you could use that contact for the indicators. Not sure if the current rating of the parking switch is up to it though, would need checking out before trying plus reasonable knowledge of the circuit to make sure safe and reliable.

have you checked the connections on the connections for the bulbs with a multimeter? and have you tried the earths? as this happened on my coupe
