Thermostat problems?

Featured Replies

I believe my thermostat is on the way out but want to make sure :)

Whilst driving along, the temp gauge does not move one bit, no matter how long I drive for. If I get held up in traffic, the gauge will rise to mid way (like it should during normal driving) and sit there until I set off again, where it will drop back down.

Is this the thermostat on it's last legs? Or is it something else 8-)

Thermostat mate, price 8quid aprox. easy to change 5min job.

yeah, sounds like your thermostats stuck open, meaning this could be either your themostats nackered or you thermostat housing has broken.

Best replacing the two if the housings broken, like matus said, its an easy fix, just two bolts holding the thermostat to the engine block.

Thought so. Thanks Matus/matt :)

I'm guessing I can get them both from Euro Car Parts - can anyone find the required parts, I can't seem to find them on there :? for a 97 1.4 6n :)

EDIT: is this the correct one:

If so, where can I find the housing for it? :)

Don't be too surprised if there isn't a thermostat in there when you open it up! - Don't forget to put new anti-freeze in when you put it back. (I recommend genuine VW G12 Plus.)

Regards.
