Car switches off whilst driving...

Featured Replies

Whilst driving to my mate's house last night my car seemed like it lost total power twice. Once coming off a roundabout and the other time when i pulled up to a set of lights. lol and no i didn't stall it, it didn't shake when it turned off. I didn't have my sound system on at the time, only my headlights and heaters on. Also when it stalled the oil light and temperature light were flashing.

Does anyone know whats going on?

Nah oil level is good :) Thermostat not too sure....

Those lights usually come on whenever it stalls but on these two occasions (now three, cause it done it the other day lol) they came on when when the car switched off. It seems like it does it whenever i slow down though :?

Been told that my coil pack could be on it's way out or the crankshaft sensor is acting up.

Battery terminals loose??

Had the same problem and it was a case of tightening the negative terminal.

oil lights nothing to do with the leval ,its the oil preasure

providing were on about mk3 here

Battery terminals are totally fine, although i'm wondering wtf has happened to the bracket that holds the battery in place has gone? lol

I'm going to be making a bracket for it anyway when it isn't so busy at work.

Also it hasn't happened for the past few weeks it seemed to only do it when it was during those really cold few days in December :?

Nope can't be the oil pressure because i've been driving everyday and it hasn't happened since those cold days during December.

It's not much of a problem cause the car started up straight away, i was just really concerned and worried about it and i just wanted to find out the problem so i can make sure it don't happen again :? lol

if it was just total lost off power then back with a bang i would recon

hall sender in the disi failing or the coil pack.

My 6N has done this once...apart from no lights came on at all, just died silently...went to pull away from roundabout and realised car wasn't on :S lol

Has never ever done it since :| I'm guessing it was a battery connection or something, however you say they're all secure :/

faulty ignition switch? or relay 109 dropping out....

Nah it's had a K&N air filter on there since November and the throttle body it's clean :)

But no worries it's only happened 5 times in the past 2000 miles of driving lol When it does it i just take it out of gear (whilst still moving) turn it on, whack it into gear and then i'm away lol.

Same here but it was while i was driving. Only once, that was a year ago.

check the carb out whilst the engine is running move it around it might be the gasket letting air in/out

Cleaned the terminals, Topped up the oil, And charged the battery- Still done it untill i relocated my airfilter
