Looking to start a small mag about V.A.G cars just as a project, and i want to focus on real peoples cars what are awsome but not show winning, not 500bhp machines,smart looking V.A.Gs!

not trying to compete with the likes of performance vw or golf plus, just want to make good reading and viewing for other enthusiasts what i can hand out at local meets etc :)

just fancy a challenge

so what i was woundering was if anyone would like a write up about there car? and if so, private message me with details and will get back to you.

well done about time someone produced a mag that was,nt full of show winning vags just your everyday car or your pride and joy lil sugestion why dont you include a wip section and say have a couple of write ups and a couple of pics on work in progress side of the scene

brilliant idea i think this would take off as well i for one would buy a mag that had everyday cars and wips in it you could also use various dub clubs to distribute through as well or what about a section giv your club a mention good advertisments for meets be wicked imight even have a couple of bits for your mag be in touch

quality of paper might not be the greatest untill funds are up but content should be top class!

about time some body tried to cater for the 95% of the scene that don't own a show car

I think people are a little harsh on mags tbh.

Don't get me wrong, there's a place for a 'real world' mag but whenever the mainstream mags try to please that part of the scene there's a big backlash too. So to have a go at mags for featuring show cars is a bit unfair - plenty of people want to see inspirational big money builds and don't want to part with cash to see the sort of cars you can see at your local meet or on a forum.

But on the flip side, most mags do feature some real world builds too. So you're competing against established names.

You're also competing with forums. All mags are facing this issue, but even moreso than the big builds there are LOADS of places to see ordinary builds and ordinary cars. And tbh there are lots of places to see even the biggest builds take place.

Trying to make people justify spending money on a magazine when the information is already available for free is an issue a lot of the big mags are struggling with at the moment. Trust me on that one.

I think you've got a tough task ahead of you- especially as I'm guessing you have no publishing experience. Your local printing house would have to print on really low paper stock to make it affordable to do a small print run for starters. Otherwise you're talking the same cover price as a mainstream mag just to break even. Big publishing houses can afford to take the hit at the beginning because they're funded by advertising and the shortfall for the first few issues is bankrolled by other titles. Getting a mag off the ground is very expensive, and getting advertisers on board at the moment is difficult. Are you planning on making any money out of it?

But I do wish you luck!

cheers for all the input guys, all taken on board but I will not be selling the magazines atleast untill i know that there is a following and I am not planning on trying to sell at your local WHsmiths, although would be nice :), I just want to make a good read for enthusiasts and followers. :biggrin:

also I do not have any puplishing experience, just want to tackle something I feel i can achieve :)

I will be self funding limited issues untill i feel steps can be taken to increase the mags size and also the magazine will be free on request :biggrin: so get requesting and when recieved let me know what you guys thing after all you are my audience and info is neccesary to progress.

Could always sell at the shows over the summer and get people interestted in subscribing that way?

Or give the first couple of issues away free on the internet as PDFs?

I'd say go for the online mag route? Lace it with advertisment and theorretically itll be self sufficient.

yeah i think online is a good idea but I'm keen to try publishment of a mag so.... i'll see how it goes

You need to a write up on the polo GT, the underestimated 1.3 of the roads

Definatly go down the publishing route, i find reading a mag is so much more pleasing that over the internet.

awsome, your down for a copy man and I have got a writer starting on History of VW etc But I'm defo a follower of the GT, never owned one YET but will!

I want to write about the things people request as for all it is hopefully you guys who will be reading it.

also I'm gunna try and attend the RR day so hopefully get a write up in too.
