Just looking for some advice realy?

Had some prob's with the car on Friday headed down to london she was missing a little.

Got past another 2 junctions and she started losing all power then getting a bit back really lerching forward and back like the engine was stalling.

Pulled over on the hard sholder trying to get her to start but she was really having trouble and there was now a new clicking from what sonded like the 2 relays from befind the far side of the dash near the glove box. Any way called the recovery out and they just towed me the the next services so had to sleep in the back for then night in oxfrd services at -10C. Not the best nights sleep anyway left her there for a day before i could get it rocovered home. when the RAC man looked at it he said the hall mass sensor had gone and that was the problem, so when i got it home i put my spair distributor on that i know works.

But now its not even fireing and there is a loud buzzing comeing from one of the 2 relays in the scuttle bay by the ECU.

So my questions are any ideas whats wrong.

What the F*** are the 2 relays for?

Of the two relays one's for the fuel pumps and one's for the ECU.

So I guess either could cause your symptoms if it's not working properly. Personally my money's on the fuel pump relay. Do you have a rev counter? If so, did this zoom to zero when the lurching occured?

If so, this would indicate the ECU relay.

If you've got an SPI engine they will both be 4-pin relays, but if you've got a GT or G40 one will be 5pin (this is for the ECU).

How good are you with electrics? Or do you have a friend that's good with electrics? If you feel up to it, you could remove the relays and hot-wire them to troubleshoot (do one at a time).

Luckily if it is one of these relays they're a maximum of about £5 from Maplins. Or most people that break MK3s should be able to pop one in the post for you.

Edit: If you hotwire the relays, be very careful and be sure to use properly insulated cable. Also 'just in case' make sure the car is in neutral and the handbrake is on. (shouldn't start without starter or push start, but better to be safe than sorry.)

Ok cool cheys03.

Just been out and tryed swapping them over to see if it would make any difference but the both make the buzzing noise when i plig them into the fule pump relay socket.

Dont know if thats unsual or not?

But will grab some relays 2mro and give them a go.

Seems a bit strange that.

Obviously check the fuses if you haven't already. But it sounds more like a dodgy earth or a loose connection somewhere. Might be worth take the multiplugs off the back of the fusebox and putting them back on.
