i have a 6n polo 1.4 8v wich has abs, if i want to do away with abs, pump. how do i go about doing this.

i want to smooth my engine bay so trying to get rid as much as possible.

Have you considered maybe moving the ABS unit elsewhere? that way you can retain the safety feature and still have a cool smooth bay?

In theory you'll only need to lengthen any wiring and the copper brake pipes. It shouldn't be any more difficult than removing the entire system, in fact, it'll probably be easier.

i don't think thats true.

From online MOT manual...

If the vehicle is fitted with an anti-lock braking system, check that

a. a warning lamp is fitted

b. the lamp illuminates

c. the lamp follows the correct sequence of operation

d. does not indicate a fault.

If the abs system is totally removed,including wiring/bulbs etc, the MOT tester has no reason to think that ABS was ever fitted.

Actually in some cases the VIN number tells the story. But when its optional. How would he possibly know? Just get rid of all the evidence including sensors and such. Never tried it but hey should work.

If there are no signs of it ever being fitted,then theres no reason to test it.Not all mk4 polos had abs fitted anway!

If all the kit, sensors, modulator, wiring and piping etc was removed, what would the bulb in the dash do? Presumably it would stay on? And there is no way to 'remove the bulbs' (or at least some of them) on the 6N dash, they are weird ones.

Plus, a keen eye would see that the wheel hub carriers would be missing the sensors/have sensors left in them surely? I've never seen them on a Polo though..

Well, in this case (6n) its fully removable

You just have to get those flat knobs.

Why not go the whole hog and remove the entire hydraulic system? you could then just use the hand brake and have some real fun on all this ice!
