I'm looking to upgrade my standard comps before soundproofing and building a sub enclosure etc, was jsut wondering how many people just replace the mids and tweeters unamped on standard wiring? obviously amping them would give better sound, but i cant budget for that :/

I've tried it before and i would honestly say you would be better with a set of coaxials if you are running off HU. comps need a bit more power like you said, amping.

I've just got a pair of 6.5" JBL GTO coaxes, kenwood HU, JBL GTO1214 sub and JBL amp and does everything i want for a budget system - for the money it sounds mint!

thing is arnt comps fitted as standard in the polo? or just replace the door speaker with co-axials?

They would run fine unless they are competionn grade stuff , mine are fairly high end ( mb quartz) and I am current dunning them off the head unit since my amp sh•t the bed, sure there not amazing but they still do the job and are still a decfinate improvement over the stock setup.

Co azials wold probably handle about the same refardsles, but if your planning on building a larger system in he future then getting a decent set of components now would make more swnce then buyng a set of coaxials now and then anther set of components later.
