Rozza's Open Air 16v low, loud and leather

1999 1.4 16v 100bhp Open Air

I have owned my polo for about a year and a half now and i thought that i may as well start a build thread as i might be planning some big modifications in the new year.

When i brought the car is had a few small modifications done already including 40mm lowering springs, k&n panel filter and tsw alloys.

When i got the car i had the bonnet resprayed as it was in a bad way. I then had to have a new starter motor and battery fitted as it hadn't been used for a while. Now that it was running properly i started to add a few more mods of my own including a badgeless grill, removed the polo and 16v badges off the rear, resprayed the wheels in a darker gray (as they needed a refurb anyway) and upgraded the sound system a bit with a kenwood stereo, 6x9's in the parcel shelf and upgraded the door speakers with jbl ones.

after owning the car for about 3 months, the car decided to get an oil leak which i found out to be the rocker cover gasket, this meant a very expensive replacement gasket and rocker cover due to the stupid design of the original one.

now that the oil leak was fixed i decided to polish up the rocker cover gasket and give the whole engine bay a clean up.

last week I brought a set of mk3 golf vr6 leathers off of ebay for £150 and i fitted these in place of the original seats. i have just managed to source the heater loom and switches and other parts from here as a Christmas present to myself. these should hopefully be arriving soon along with my Hid kit that i am getting for Christmas.

i fitted the Hid's today, wasnt too hard to do just took a while to figure out where to put the ballasts but after that it was all just plug and play.

the kit came with everything that was needed and is quite good quality as well for a £50 ebay kit.

here are were the ballasts were fitted to. had to take apart the air intake to connect it

Bit annoyed with the car today, came off the motorway on the way back to uni and couldn't change gear. i managed to just limp back the last 10 miles of the trip in 2nd.

i think it is the clutch, hopefully it isnt the gearbox.

I had a go at wiring in the heated seats today but I am not to sure I have done it right so if anyone could give some details in how to do it that could be helpful

  • 2 weeks later...

did you have to modify the rear seat to get them to fit?

Well, i was going to buy some coilovers this month, but after a call to the insurance i found out that it will be too much to declare them so i will have to wait till the summer when i have more no claims.

anyway, i wanted to do something to the car over the easter break and my wheels needed a good refurb due to me not being able to judge where the curb is properly lol

i sanded them down almost to the metal at some points the marks were so bad

IMG00811-20110418-1458.jpg

Then the masking up

IMG00812-20110420-1508.jpg

IMG00813-20110420-1508.jpg

and the final product. I used Rover gunmetal grey if anyone is interested
