Personally I'm modding my cars for looks when it comes to the point when i can afford a fast car i most likely wont be driving a polo .

I like the querkyness of the polo but at the end of the day its never going to perform aswell as alot of cars on the market .

atm its nothing for me since my GT broke down... but mines a matt black mk3 with steelies,orange indys and a fly eye kit over the front lights with rear tints so its sort of 'stealthy' and honestly looks like a bag of shit atm ,but thats due to winter. I've taken my nice wheels off throughout this crap weather, but id like it to look nice and have an engine to back it up. the GT isnt a quick engine...but its a nippy one for a car thats weighs just under a ton.

All these new cars that are quick look smart...but also have all of this ABS,PAS,LSD,ESP blah blah blah and it just isn't fun to drive.

give me a mk1 polo g40 anyday that just looks tidy! or OEM for that matter

I'm mostly a performance slag. But I like my cars to be clean. Wear and tear doesn't bother me though. Shit happens.

I often get lost, confused and torn between the 2.

Functionality for me!

i want a bit of both,

for me i was a reasonably powerful engine, in a light car, but it has to be able to inspire confidence with the handling and braking.

so for me the base point is usually upgrading the brakes and lowering the car with a high quality lowering kit, and sticking some very good tyres on whatever wheels.

once thats done i turn my attention to the engine.

never been a big fan of bling bling bodywork, and i think the cars look good in thier own right, a nice hit with the lowering stick and some decent looking wheels with none of this stretch malarky and I'm sorted.

hence my love affair with mk1 golfs, handle really well out of the box, light as owt and lots of performance parts on the market.

my first polo was a G40 and an early polo with a subframe can outhandle a tired mk1 golf gti, plus they are a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing with the right engine.

so in a nutshell, i prefer to build a drivers car, as i love driving. if other people like the look of it, its a bonus, but my cars are built for noone bar myself.

For me, neither really, it's just the fun of driving about in what I do. None of mine are fast or good looking, I just enjoy them for what they are.

Basically, I enjoy the technique of driving, so I don't like new cars, I want something that does what I want it to do when I tell it to and that tells me what's going on back. One of my pet hates is throttle lag on new cars, another is over servo'd brakes that you can't feel the action on. Likewise, I like to feel the road, how much grip I have, what sort of camber I'm on. I like good visibility, which you don't get locked in a modern safety cell.

75 bhp from a GT does go pretty well in an 800 kg car, and once pushing 90ish bhp they become surprisingly nippy, enough to just about keep up with modern warm hatches. What everyone needs is a 16v in a Mk2/3 Polo...

Just wondering, have you ever driven a car with a proper plate type LSD? Don't think you can call it boring

would love a complete sleeper with the ability to annoy anyone in a car much more expensive and faster, but alos like to have a nice clean example of a car that doesnt light up the roads (like my polo)

tbh i think i would like all 3 of the following: a sleeper, a minter (not performance orientated) and one thats BOTH!

It's all about performance for me! You can't beat seeing peoples faces when you nail them in the polo, I love G-lada!!!!!

Performance all the way, just keep it clean and shiny.

Mainly looks for me. Its almost impossible to have a spirited drive anywhere nowadays without running into runners/stupid horseriding twats/slippery roads. The only way to properly enjoy a car swaying to performance way is to go to a track tbh.

That said, my mk1 does perform very well :grin:

I wrote off my 306 gti-6 which was pretty nippy just before christmas...

Bought a 1.6 6n because it's 'nice and practical' but now I'm desperate for more speed again...keep putting my foot down to over take things and just get noise and a sinking feeling inside...

Should have got a valver haha...
