It was time to let go of the mk2,

I'm doing some higher mileage this year and the mk2 polo wasn't going to be great at it

So swapped it for a pretty tidy mk2 scirocco, She's a 1.6GT, around 90bhp (sadly only 75bhp ) on around 90k miles i think.

Gave the engine abit of TLC, was pretty dirty so i think i'll be getting it steam cleaned:

Plans are going to be a full going over, re-bushed and running gear painted etc, May ask arun if he can make a bike carb manifold for it, Might be abit more difficult to the polo engines because of the exhaust manifold being in way etc.

Also going to be having some 14x8" and 14x7" banded steelies off my mate, Will be going under a full re-con and new tyres.

The good news is, someone's taken the wise step of putting some GTII seats in it for you (original GT seats were remarkably similar to Polo C ones, just less comfy).

Bad news is, it's the 1.8 (like mine :p) that are 90bhp. I think the 1.6 is 75bhp. They still have a good usable glug of torque though, especcially when you think a Mk2 Rocco doesn't really weigh much more than a Polo.

If you want an easier solution to bike carbs, I've got a weber that I was rebuilding for mine, before I ended up with a car with a new weber on this week. Failing that, what the Scirocco gives you is a golf engine bay with more space, so they're begging for an engine swap.

Re carb manifold, the only reason it'd be more difficult is trying to get the carbs to sit at an angle anything similar to what it should be. These engines lean the other way so the manifold runners would have to have a fairly large bend in them. Not too much of an issue though!

Meanwhile, get back to that lathe and make up some more interesting stuff for us to see

Yeah it seemed a bit more complicated than the 86c engine manifolds. Sure you can do it though :-). It won't be a while until i need one though,

When my mk3 is on the road and proves to be reliable, the rocco will be coming off and ill contact you then with the relevant dimensions.

Yeah the seats have been replaced by the previous owner for the GTII items like you say, they're pretty comfy.

That is bad news on the BHP , but if the mounts are the same as golf parts then that's going to be helpful!

Yeah, it's a Golf engine. All a Mk2 Rocco is is a cooler, wedgier Mk1 Golf. So you have many options, Golf GTI engines, ABF's, 1.8T's have all been done.

Why are they more dangerous lol, As for an inter-cooler, It may become G40 next year, That or AFH.

There's no real point going for polo engines, you'll have to reweld the front mount (granted, not hard if you've got the tools) but what's the point when you get 113bhp from a G40 and an engine costs loads, whereas you can pick up a mk2/3 golf gti 8v engine for peanuts and have the same bhp to start with?

My old K-jet 8v engine will be available soon if you fancy it, rolling roaded at 110.9 bhp at the fly

Yeah you only get 113bhp to start with (that's if your lucky to find a standard lump), but with a few choice mods and maybe some skint months you can have a pretty powerful engine. Plus , there's nothing like a charger.

Also, there's something about the polo 8v polo engines that i love, simplicity is one i think. Looking at the golf engine that sits in the scirocco doesn't appeal to me.

Only time will tell though mate, It wont be until I've finished the mk3.

I don't like the bathtub layout of the bigblock 8v lumps personally. G60 bottom end, 16v head, eaton blower? That'd be a fairly fruity combo

Only reason I say they're more dangerous is if you've been sat in the back of one full chat down some back roads, with the roof touching your head you'd know what I meant. I'm sure they'd be no worse if rolled, sat in the front. Lower centre of gravity should reduce the chance of this too!

Another one! I have been driving my Rocco for a few weeks now. Polo days are numbered.

I recognise that one from when it was on sale was seriously considering making an offer. Hope you got a good deal it looks really clean. I think it used to have a very retro red colour interior or maybe it was it Steve's new one? (been over on the Scirocco register)

I think it will either get a GTI conversion, maybe jon's or i may sort it out with a decent polo engine.
