My old K-jet 8v engine will be available soon if you fancy it, rolling roaded at 110.9 bhp at the fly

Very interested jon,

What's the spec?

Its the same as the mk1 golf gti motor, 1800cc with bosch k-jetronic injection 8v

Tempting, Is it the same kind of layout to the lump already in? As in inlet manifold and exhaust manifold on the back?

Fucking get on it!

Weekend at Max's to do the swap Jon? Think so

I'll always look down on you now though max for selling the jade green sex-bomb.

Me and higgo came to the conclusion that its was MK2 perfection at action.

Lol safe!

Please don't look down on me, Would you rather me run it into the ground on the new commute?

The rocco is a mk2 if that's any good?? :-D

Cheers for the comment though, It was a very nice looking car, Mk2moo now own's her. :-(

Another one! I have been driving my Rocco for a few weeks now. Polo days are numbered.

I recognise that one from when it was on sale was seriously considering making an offer. Hope you got a good deal it looks really clean. I think it used to have a very retro red colour interior or maybe it was it Steve's new one? (been over on the Scirocco register)

Mine is a later GT with the 1.8 /pierburg which is going to need a lot of TLC.

What do you think of the rocco compared to a polo?

Yeah the owner offered me a swap for my mk2 coupe.

I would think about getting a weber replacement for your lump, you just can't beat them!

M

I don't like the bathtub layout of the bigblock 8v lumps personally. G60 bottom end, 16v head, eaton blower? That'd be a fairly fruity combo :unibrow:

Only reason I say they're more dangerous is if you've been sat in the back of one full chat down some back roads, with the roof touching your head you'd know what I meant. I'm sure they'd be no worse if rolled, sat in the front. Lower centre of gravity should reduce the chance of this too!

lol andy, Do this! Do that! Powerr! Charger! Turbo! lol

I think it will either get a GTI conversion, maybe jon's or i may sort it out with a decent polo engine.

Ease of installment big block power vs cheap road tax small block boost? Hmm..

Well I'm quite tall and wide so although low once seated I am far more comfortable. It feels far more solid than the breadvan, less road noise. Handling I haven't really been able to test because of issues with a clicking noise that I think is a CV joint failure or/and bearing issues.

On motorway is great cruising. Even just sitting at 60 in 5th is really enjoyable compared to sitting in the bready in 4th lol. I know there is power there but not pushing things yet. It's like many unloved 80 dubs.

I have seriously perished looking bushes especially on the rear where the rear anti roll bar clamps are non existent. Going to make my own clamps and go for Rally design poly's and probably standard bushes up front. I believe a front lower strut brace puts them on rails. Will be good to feel the difference as I start to replace these parts. Does your GT have ARBS front and rear? I'm not going much lower than standard more for handling.

I am going to try and get the pierburg working properly, there are plenty good guides but with more cash would definately get the DMTL Weber.

Yes it is matey, it'll be the whole engine with the injection system as new 16v has a different k-jet system, can also give you a stainless 421 exhaust manifold for it

Be good to see what you do with this. I am really missing it, can tell you that. Miss the power, the comfort and the quietness compared to the polo. But liking the polo in its own lil way. Feels like go kart. But the polo is going to get some good attention :)

Yeah quietness wasn't a strong point of the polo.

Its getting a set of staggerd bands, 8j on the rear and 7j on the front. 8-)

they will look so good on that. yolu still gonna de-kit it? the polo will be quiet by the end of the week. Once all the carpets pulled up and sound deadening placed. then need to start making a collection of bits for it :)

Nice one, You thinking a decent exhaust system aswell?

I'm gonna treat this to everything, once get a new job, will be afh going in on bike carbs, retrim interior, full custom exhaust. gonna be a kind of track/daily. Just gonna have a lot of fun with it. try make it look a bit different.

Nice one

absolutely no point what so ever putting a AFH in a mk2 rocco, 16v KR all the way, 140bhp straight out the box, bolts straight in and wiring is plug and play if you keep the k-jet, or carbs

:unibrow:

in fact there's no point in putting any other engine in but a tall block 16v tbh

Dam , They DCOE's aswell?

Was that your's?

yes and yes mate, twin 45's, the only way to roll

I hate you.

Seriously, that's wicked mate.

Thing is , i just won't be able to get insured on something like that. Think i may have to get a 1.8 GTI lump.

How long did it take you to install and set-up the webers then?

M

well took a weekend to fit the engine but i had to convert it from auto as well, took about 20 mins to fit the carbs but i was very exited to see what my new toys sounded like

as soon as you stick another engine in there your insurance will go up because it's a modded car, whether it's and 8v or a 16v wouldn't make much difference i doubt, try a quote and see what they say.

Looks awesome mate,

How much extra power with the webbers on?

They 40's?

no idea mate, it was another one of those project's that i got pretty much finished and then got bored of and got rid cause some thing needing more work came along. gutted really cause it sounded the bollocks, and they were 45's

Suppose the choke throats are inter-changeable on DCOE's aren't they?

Bet it did sound pretty good.

How much can you pick KR lump's up for?

Main issue you'll have with an 8v GTI engine is if you wish not to use injection then you are left with four redundant injector holes in the head. My mates been bodging about using pennies and super glue for a while. If you use the rocco carb head then you have issues with the inlet manifold having a preheat port/waterway in it iirc. So best option is to keep an 8v lump on injection. Esp being a bath tub layout. My mates is on 40's and it does go alright mind. Sounds beast too. Drinks fuel like I drink beer though

Hows that cylinder head coming on chap?

To be totally honest i've only just got it into the workshop.

Iv been pretty ill for a while and then i went on a holiday last week so haven't been in the workshop for a while.

It wont take long when i'm up and running though.

Sorry dude.

M

No worries man. Iv still got a few bits to do to the bottom end as yet, but its coming along slowly.

Whenever its ready just let us know.
