can anyone tell me if it is possible to convert my standard 6n key into a flip style one? i do have an alarm and immobiliser but its an after market one so the chip and all that's in a separate key fob so no need to mess with that.

Well I've done it on a 6N2 and removed the transponder out of the standard key and glued it into the universal flip key. Then just had the blank blades for the flip key cut to the original profile.

Works perfect and just as good as OEM.

do you think id get away with using this one ? i know the buttons wont work. would the blade be the right size?

What exactly is it you are trying to achieve buddy, just a flip key? If so, then yes if the blade is the same size then there's no reason it won't work - although I'm not sure what blade size the 6N has.

What's the point of the flip key if you can't use the remote though mate?

this is my current key i only have one,

i want to get a flip key cut to match this if possible. then i want to send off for another remote. once i have the spare remote I'm hoping to take it apart, to fit it into the vw flip key unit

Well in theory what you're planning should work, and that key looks the same as my 6N2 blade. I'm not sure how successful you will be transferring the internals of your alarm fob to the flip key but keep us posted.

The thread is old but maybe you still wanna do it.

You should go and find an alarm installer who actually knows what he's doin, buy the key with the original VW circuit, and he should be able to put the same frequency in the new remote as your old one (i saw someone has done it before), wont be cheap or easy to do or to find that kinda guy...

just a sugestion check out a company on ebay called rightclick thay do central lockin bits an bobs thay do a kit with a flip out vw key it looks close enough to a vw key if you are not to botherd also thay suply the right blade and also a space inside the key itself for the transponder in the price of the kit. kit would come with two flip out keys altho u would only have one trannsponder.. hmm

I Fitted an Rclick central locking kit to my 6n2, I now have two of those flip out key fobs and the buttons actually lock and unlock my car. The main module also has wiring to connect to your existing alarm so that when you lock the car via the key fob, your alarm is also activated. I bought my kit direct from Rightclick:

The key fob, quite close to an original VW one and also has a boot release button which can be wired up using an additional boot release soleniod.
