Welcome to the revived and cleaned build thread of my 1967 Triumph Herald, as there were a million and one photos before although pre warning, the photo quality is lacking in places I apologies!

First a little bit of history as to how I came to own this lovely classic.

I got the car in 2007, when I was 14, from Sandy, Bedfordshire. It belonged to an old lady who seemed to live in the past.. The house was ancient and falling apart, it had stags heads on the walls, and a great wooden spiral staircase. The rooms were stacked full of old newspapers and magazines up to your waist; it seemed she never threw anything away, instead just threw it in the corner... Weird ey!

Anyway, this lady was friends with some friends of my dad's and as she had no other relatives, my dad's friends inherited the property and everything on it.

When checking out the place, they obviously came across the Triumph in the garage, along with an old sailing boat, a trailer tent, and another ton of junk just dumped in round the car, blocking it in.

They spoke to my dad about the car and he first offered it to my brother who turned his nose up straight away, claiming "it's a woman's car!". So he then offered it to me and I was very interested! (Remember I was only 14, the prospect of having a car at that age was exciting!)

We went to have a look, cleared out some of the crap around it and did a damage report. You'll see in the pictures, it wasn't good. But still I was up for the task and on 11th March 2007, we pulled the car from it's resting place, got it on a trailer and took it to it's new home.

So I'm gonna give you a break from reading and treat you to some pictures! (Also I can't be bothered to write out everything I've done so far!)

that is such a strange story, not in a bad way its just u never hear of stuff like that happening any more. how is the car now?

I know it's the sort of story you'd read in a novel or something! It was like I was in a novel when at the house.. The house was sold a year or two ago and its been completely done up. Although the drive is tarmac now so might be a nursing home or something.

The car isn't great at the moment. I haven't worked on it for about a year due to rowing commitments. I'm getting pics up as quick as I can so you'll see in about 15 minutes. :)

Next thing to happen was me to go crawling under the car while it was on ramps to check the condition of the chassis. Inspection started off very well as I scrapped the road crap off the big bits of the main chassis rails. Things started to go downhill though when I began poking around the rear suspention...

Next thing was replacing the rotten outriggers. So we took loads of measurements so we were sure to put the new outriggers on in the right place so the body would go back on alright.

Correction to original post - Before we replaced the outriggers, I cut out the rot round the rear suspension and welding in new metal, so here's a couple of photos of that..

These are just a few measurements we took.

Then the out riggers came off one by one and the metal was replaced on the main rails before welding on the new riggers.

Got all of them done and then time for some protection!

While all this was going on, I was also in the process of refurbishing the suspension.

Then was time to reassemble!

THIS POST IS PRETTY MUCH POOP NOW... You'll see why shortly

It's gonna be pretty much original but with some nice touches, including:

- Decent stereo, nothing too fancy

- Nice Cherry Red metallic paint job

- Cream/white interior

- Nice set of wheels, undecided on what though. I'm thinking these

Or the same with black centres. Or not them atall!

I'd also like a bit of lowerage but I'm not sure how I'd do it.

I just remembered this pshop I did ages ago of this is one I snapped at a show last year or year before. :)

More pictures to come shorty, and after them it will be fresh new ones as I'm resuming work on it tomorrow!!!

Amazing mate, top work

The next stage, having done the chassis, was the body. This has been an enormous job and a damn frustrating one at that. There is still lots to do.

Bringing the bodywork photos to an abrupt end, here's some photos of the engine work...

The engine has been fully stripped and had all sorts of bits replaced.

The most expensive thing I had to do was have the cylinder head refurbished and converted to run on unleaded petrol. If I didn't do this I'd either have to add and additive to petrol every time I filled up or the valves would eventually burn out and all sort of problems would arise. So that was sent off to Triumph Great Britain (TRGB) up near Somersham.

That's back and looking very nice indeed.

The oil seals have been replaced along with the crank shell bearings.

Since this is the cleaned thread, I have incorporated the missing progress pictures from below into this post, so this post is the most up to date you lot have been! I do have a rather major update for you all once I've finished cleaning...!

Got a soft sport for old british cars like these. Looks to be a nice project, when you reckon itll be done?

They're nice cars to work on, once they're actually together... I hope to have this done by the end of the year, whether that'll happen with work I do not know! Would be nice though cos I want to replace my polo with a bora once this is done.

where are all the pics

I have a free photobucket account and I've reached my 10G bandwidth apparently so all my pics and vids on there are disabled til the 28th when my bandwidth gets reset :( it sucks but forget paying 28 quids or whatever it is on photobucket when I have no money anyway! Will upgrade when I have some pennies so this doesn't happen again.
