I need my tracking done but the garage I would go to doesn't have a low ramp and I cant get onto it. So could anyone recomend a good place in lincolnshire that will take a low car please :)

never had them so wouldnt know guess you learn something new every day

i know some places cant do it due to needing a gap in the wheel arch but if the place has the device where u dont need a wheel arch gap......just put some bigger wheels on so car is higher? I'm pretty sure changing wheel size doesn't alter the tracking :)

No I don't think it does change it, but I don't have any bigger wheels and if I did I don't think I'd fit them in the arches anyway.

What you need is somewhere that does it the old way with Gunson Trakrite drive-on tracking gauges. I think I might have to start offering this service because I've heard a few newer hot hatches are quite difficult to track as well.

Or you could buy a trakrite yourself and do it.

ye it will be what arch gap you have aswell. Most modern systems need to be hung over your tyre to align the laser.

If you have access to a flat surface like a driveway then there are a few ways on the net to do it yourself. Can either make a diy laser alignment or use string and a ruler.

String Method

you dont really need a ramp to do the tracking. If yuor are just wanting the front wheel track seting up, you can do it on the floor. I did my passat at my work on the floor, which is mega mega low. all you need to do is set the wheels straight set up the gauges and adjust which ever side by turn the wheels on full lock, adjust. run up the road quickly in the car, back in the garage and set the wheel stright and recheck and repeat till corretly set. bit of a faff around but it is do-able.

My friend who works in a garage thinks they would be able to get it on there if I just take the splitter off. If not I'll do the bumper. And if still not I'll have a go at some of you diy methods :)

I seem to remember someone telling me the tracking rig Bush's in Boston is low car friendly, can't remember who told me or if it's true, but maybe worth a phone call.

chemix garages have some funky systems that can do it apparently.

although they told me they couldnt do mine (even after i was with a mate and they did her car which wasnt any higher up)

i think all the bush garages use the same kit, (clamps the the side of the wheel rather then around the wheel and tyre) the one in louth does

I managed at tanvics in newark. It took a while and we had to use a few extra bits of wood and sheets of metal but it got on there :)

For the record mate, next time. My old man runs a garage in Billinghay near sleaford. and he could always help you out with them kinda problems. has a low ramp and a pit and does MOT's, tracking ETC....

I swear the guy at my garage used a long pole with like one of those dentists mirrors on and some other mirrors, and then adjusted it through my engine bay!

Bush tires in sleaford josh, they did mine

The string method is pretty easy once you have got your head around the maths.

Find 2 old topmounts and drive onto these so they can twist, that way you will be able to turn the wheels easily instead of flexing the steering components!

in the past I've reversed cars onto the 4poster and jacked the front up and rolled them back onto the ramp. then repeat to get it off :)
