i was thinking about getting HID lights for my car but was wondering will the light pattern be ok for the MOT?

anyone know if they will be ok?

I think the maximum is 6000. Correct me if I'm wrong. 8000 is too blue.

the numbers are the different colours, but sometimes when you put new bulbs in it will blind other drivers just wondering if they wil be ok?

Fitted HiD's to my car about a month ago.Had the MOT last week, the aim was a bit off but apart from that they were fine. If you fit them and then take them to a garage, they should be able to align them for a few quid. :)

Just make sure you put them in completely straight and not at an angle.

I've got to buy the h4 hi and low beam hid lights for my car. but should be ok. £50 sound the right price?

The set i got off ebay was £37 , i was expecting it to be bad but took a chance.

I've looked at the beams and they look spot on , Couldnt fault it apart from a clunk when you flash full beam.

Not on the 6N2 because each bulb has it's own little compartment in the lens if that makes sense. You only need the reflector thing for the old school lights where the bulb is just bare in the cluster.

But yeah, projectors ftw.

My point is that you could have the best beam pattern in the world but in 12 months time they'll be illegal. You're better off fitting relays in the wiring and fitting the brightest bulbs you can get they're loads better anyway.

At the least you'll have to take them out to pass the MOT but you will be breaking the law re-fitting them and driving around, and its not like they're difficult to spot. It's not like German plates where you can try and wing it by saying you'll swap them there and then either as they're not something you can swap at the side of the road, will probably be points/fine/MOT void.

Because if not fitted properly, you get di*ks blinding you because they put the bulbs in wrong or something!

Its the people that mess it up for people like us!

Under this new law. It is technically legal to retrofit them, as long as there is a headlamp levelling system and a headlamp washer system, but to be fair all this will probably mean is you have to switch back to halogen for mot.

Also for a few months now it had been illigal to sell second hand hiss, as there is already a law in place that sates any retrofited bids must be brand new. This is good and bad. Good because it means that all he gear is up to scratch and that the price of new kits a are getting cheaper ( has anyone noticed the price crash in the last few months?). Bad be use now you can't by cheap as chips second hand ones.

But more to the point, if you have h4 bulbs, then us h4-4 telescopic bo-xenon kits. If you have h7 then only use. H7r in general, as they are a newer design and mostly of better quality.

I've got the telescopic h4 hi/los. i could easily carry a pair of h4s in the golvebox and swap them over on the side of the road. it would mean unplugging inline fuse and moving the 3pin plug from hid bulb to h4 bulb....

The only reason they are planning to enforce a rule against the use of these is because people fit them and do not align there light beams meaning oncoming traffic and other road users are blinded. If your lights are priperly aligned and used correctly then there will be no problems. As far as being pulled for them, regadless of uif they are HID or not - if there blinding pc plod he wont like it!

I have never failed an mot for using HID's and unless forced to I never will, but what I personally do is realign the light pattern correctly for any car that has them fitted, even if they seam fine.

That's because the MOT can only check for alignment and pattern. They are not policemen, they do not uphold the law, they check what they told to check. Nothing more, nothing less.
