A remote turbo is one that sits further down the exhaust, the advantage is it runs at lower temperatures. The downside is it needs a heck of a lot of inlet piping. Obviously because of this, they need a high amount of exhaust gas flow to spool effectively, so they're normally used on beefy things like muscle cars. 1.4 Polo, I'd like to see it done and work, but is a low car really a good place to do it?

remote turbo is not direct onto the manifold the turbo sits further down the exhaust ie under the car or near the firewall and also with the bike carbs i will have a custom alu air box that houses the trumpets of the carbs. tbh I'm not well up on it my self got a few mates in the know who will give me a hand.. As for MD customz its a small business that specialize in custom stickers and the odd thing here and there like my airbox

Won't the turbo therefore be the lowest part of your car and therefore be liable to being damaged/ripped off?

Also surely it being further away means alot more inlet pipework? (and as i understand it, more pipework, more lag)

Yeah, on a carb'd turbo setup you commonly pressurise the plenum, but to get the most of this you need a specialised carb such as a Solex 32 DIS (R5T). There's an obvious source of a bike carb that can be used, but whether it'd suit a remote setup isn't something I'd know about.

who knows l ol i just ask for it and hopefully should get it. I'm thinking they will mount the turbo instead of the centre box. I'm not after big bhp so i leave it to people who know

as i have clearly said i haven't a clue how it works or how to do it and that i have a couple of mates in the know and they are doin the work for me.

for all i care they can build it with copper pipe and bits from the bin. i just know eventually it will get done

The obvious solution to prevent lag is to use a smaller turbo like a garret T2 or T12 to suit the engine size.

R5 1.4 8v turbo was a T2 turbo which used a standard carb setup. Nothing special there.

any bike carbs can be used to turbo. Best to use a 600cc setup off a CBR etc...

Look at all the turbo bikes using their original carbs.

If you keep a small bore pipe from the turbo to the carbs this will give higher pressure, also a high flow cat and a 4-2-1 manifold will increase flow to the turbo and further reduce lag

Get a turbo to match the engine size of the car.

An inter cooler can be picked up in any size, it doesn't always have to be big.

The turbo can always be a side draft setup, like the janspeed setup on old minis and metros. Still within the engine bay just to one side away from the manifold

Just an update of how it stands

GTI grill and GTi splitter and custom badges only fitted the front today and had my rear trimmed but was to dark to take a pic

Also in the morning I'm having my bonnet wrapped in carbon fibre

just got my bonnet wrapped today in carbon

I'm not a fan of it on something with less curves, but on that shape bonnet that looks verryy nice mate!
