mk1 gti

Featured Replies

my mums chap collects the scrap car's that have been left in unpaid council garages, the other week he goes to collect one knowing that it's a mk1 golf but nothing else. well this is what he ended up collecting

normally he just sells off any bits that are worth any thing and weighs the rest in, this one tho we're taking on as a little project and then selling on once it's mot'ed, it's far too cool to be chopped up. after chatting to the bloke from the council we found out that the garage hadn't been paid for for two years (about 500 quid was owed in rent), when they went to talk to the bloke the garage was signed to he denied any knowledge of a car or even the garage :?

seems a shame because there has been a lot of money put into this car in the past and the body work that's been done looks bang on, no cracks in the filler and the paint looks like it will clean up a treat.. it's a mk1 tho so there is some rust to contend with but nothing that can't be fixed.

so today i had a crack at tidying up the interior a bit, the dash was far from finished but was all wired in, now it's screwed in a little better, any bits of the dash we had are fitted. i've also fitted a new ignition and a mk4 polo 16v steering wheel to go with the dash, i've got some mk4 16v front seats to go in too, the rear will be carpeted.

couple of pics from today

next up i'm starting on tidying the engine bay up and cleaning/painting various parts.

No way, nice little find!

Looks pretty good! Hoops, look good with the big bumpers!

you jammy sod! looks like someone spent a lot of money on it at some point. will make a real nice car when finished!

ould be nice with some work done il keep an eye on this :-)

Mk3 Golf dash?

Will keep on eye on this, looks interesting

i really like this, looks to be a good find. How does it work, is it free or do you have to pay the outstanding rent or something?

You lucky sod!

It look's like a keeper mate!

Wow that looks amazing!

is that a standard "clipper" body kit, or are those custom arches?

seriously good find though! i am extremely jealous! :)

jon, its a 6n polo dash.

effel, he doesn't have to pay the outstanding rent, he does have to pay a fixed amount for every car although not sure what that is.

Jjspolo, wish it was a keeper mate but this is what he does for a living so it will have to be sold in the end.

Jamie, i'm really not sure about the arches, theres a clipper kit in the garage so i'll compare the two when i'm down there next.

I've just blown my polo up so progress on this might be slow for a week or so while i sort that, but i'll be back on this again soon. Thanks for the comments 8-)
