right i have a mk2 polo 1.3 on gsxr bike carbs and a 1.4 golf gearbox plenty of fun to drive but wht if i wanted more..... i realy want to put a more modern engine in and carry ecu and wiring but only enuth to run engine no more so i would have a separate wiring loom for just the engine alone needing only live an earth to run.... plan

I've been thinkin either

1) abd 1.4 golf engine but there 60bhp standard an will have to put gt head cam an some tweekin to get even close to 100bhp

or

2) polo 6n 1.4 engine afh??? 100 bhp standard with a better cam? and a remap 130 bhp?

if thay fit i have no idea realy... i know sounds bad but thts why I'm hear if anyone has done these conversions or can give me tips in any aspect of this like engine wiring and also if there are better engines to put in?

any help will be greatly appreciated

AFH all the way mate, you can run them on injection and get 100bhp straight out of the box, but if you run it on carbs your looking at more before youv done any other mods - look up grungeisdead and mikeymk they both have afh engines in mk2's and McLOVIN has one on injection in a mk3 :)

Also look up a thread in here somewhere - the abd is easy to turbo, tommo got over 200bhp iirc

A decent AFH with decent exhaust and well set up carbs should make 120 bhp... or thereabouts. I'm a big fan of the AFH, and if I ever have another early Polo it would be my choice of engine. It's a bit of a waste having it in a 6n.

Only the head on mine is AFH, I'm using it because its better than the other 16v heads as VW used on their 1.6's.

Have a look at the conversion/carb topics in the FAQ if you haven't already,and have a look in the members galleries under the relevant models,because some people have put most of the info regarding their conversions into their gallery.

Nice MK2 btw and looking great in that unusual colour. I think the squareback works particularly well in metallic. The front half looks best imo, probably because i like proper size tyres and its nice to see some classics wrapped accordingly, though even your enlarged front arch is being tested with that one nearing balloon proportions!

One to keep an eye out for,and no doubt great fun.

If its a daily driver,my advice is to use your carbs with the ABD engine. It may only be a 1.4 8v and not seem a great leap forward on paper,but less is more,it makes for an entertaining little package on public roads without the clouds of seriousness being brought into play by the car being more of a handful. And its easy. And sounds sweeter than the 16v's.
