My 6N Polo seems to eat wishbone bushes, on one side mainly. My car is lowered on coilies and they give quite a harsh ride (stiff), but to be fair I still drive it quite hard.

Was looking through past MOT certificates recently and noticed it failed in June and needed a new nearside front wishbone and bush, due to excess movement. Obviously, new parts were fitted.

Took it to my garage the other day, as it looked as if my whole wishbone had dropped. Anyway, there was excess movement again. The guy told me that whoever changed the bush at mot time did not line up the grooves on the bush, just tightened it. The bush I am talking about is at the rear of the wishbone, can be seen at the back of the front wheel.

Anyway they realigned and tightened it for me free of charge, but I'm concerned it might still be moving too much. So I was wondering if there is anything that could cause the car to go through wishbone bushes, and whether it is worth buying polyurethane items (such as powerflex)?

It is more than likely just the fact it was fitted incorrectly. I wouldn't recommend polyurethane rear wishbone bushes. They don't allow the wishbone to pivot correctly and eventually the hole elongates. You might be able to fit R32 rear wishbone bushes, these don't have those voids in them and are an upgrade. They fit Mk2 Golf wishbones, there's a chance they might fit 6n ones - someone should know better.

Interesting... anybody know if R32 bushes would fit ok? Will get some if they do.

Right, been looking into uprated wishbone bushes.

From what I have read, R32 rear wishbone bushes fit Mk2, Mk3 and Mk4 Golf's but not Polo's...

Been doing some investigation on this site, and a couple of guys who have 9N Polo's have upgraded their rear wishbone bushes with Ibiza Cupra items. Anybody know if this would be the same for a 6N?

I have just bought a new wishbone and ball joint for my car, the wishbone comes with all bushes in place, it's a lot easier to replace than just the individual rear bush, and only works out a little bit more expensive, as well as piece of mind that all the bushes are new!

Anyway, the bush on the new wishbone I have just bought doesn't have grooves or voids, it is just a solid piece, so hopefully this is better quality (bought from Euro Car Parts).

I have just been looking on Euro Car Parts website, and their part number for the rear bush on my car is the same as Seat Ibiza's, Mk3 Golf's, Mk2 Golf's and many more (Part No:610440160)

I then had a look at the part number specifically for a Mk2 Golf GTI, and again it is the same part as for my Polo 6N.

So, as Toby said above, R32 bushes are an upgrade for Mk2 Golf's. Based on what I have found out above, they must surely fit 6N's too if the standard bush for a 6N and Mk2 Golf are the same??

Think I will be buying some R32 items when I next come to replacing them...
