Why? Driven a fair few mk2 GTI's, 8's and 16's. The 8 valver is still a cracking car, cheaper to insure, buy and run, more reliable, and 112 bhp in a car that weighs just over a ton is plenty :)

From what I've heard (mate works at a VW/Audi specialist), valvers burn a little oil when driven hard due to the piston rings not sealing as well, and HG problems are a bit more common. Plus he reckons he gets more 16v's in to work on, but that could be because more valvers are modded and driven harder.

Well he's always told me he works on more 16v mk2's than 8v mk2's, that 16's are more prone to HG failure, and that 16's burn oil. Sounds less reliable to me. If you think he's talking out of his arse, fair enough, but most of the lads he works with agree.

Your right there, most reliable car I've ever had was a Citroen, and I had a Nissan that was nowt but trouble. All depends on the actual car really.

wrong, the 16V trim 6n2 was 100hp, i have one, you're referring to the SE 1.4 16V
