oi got pulled over, my first ever pull over in my puff tonight at around 1:30am, doing 35mph on a long, straight, deserted, hardly any traffic lights, no-pedestrian-area 30mph (god know's why) road. most people drive 40-45 on this road during the day, everyday, nevermind in the middle of the night, so if I was to drive at 29-30 mph, the cops would probably pull me over for driving suspicously slow, so I stuck to driving at 35mph, which is already far too bloody ridiculously slow in this road/time situation.

they tailed and flashed me after 5 minutes of following me and asked me to join them in the back of their car, joy. asked me why i had turned in the road, which i hadn't (and jeez so what if i had?), I had reversed out of a driveway. oh ok, you've been driving a little too fast, which means you've probably been drinking, have you been drinking tonight ? - no (honest truth) breath test. pass. ok, bring your papers in within seven days. no charge.

so i guess i should count myself lucky eh ? or should i just feel harassed ?

Until recently no. It was cheaper for many people to get done for driving with no insurance, than to fork out for insurance in the first place. Nowadays they can take your car off you. But that doesn't stop people fom getting another old banger for 50 quid and doing the same....

you are allowed 10 percent and usually 3 depending on the district, but the officer should be able to tell u what the tolerences are, people seem to think that when you are caught then there is no getting away, but that far from true, u just got to know how,just remember they only bust you to make money and no other reason!! stats show that there has been more accidents now compared to when they didnt have cameras because people concerntrate on looking for them rather than looking on the road ahead!! I've got away with an unmarked car behind me doing 90 in a 70!! the car wasnt calibrated or any daily checks done on it, so its easy, just never admit u were speeding at the roadside otherwise you are case is useless!

1. Fit all cars with a GPS receiver

2. Wire it up to the cars engine management.

3. Program the receiver with a map of Britain and all the speed limits.

4. Have the car set so it can't go over the speed limit.

No more speeding, problem solved!

Spend an enormous amount of money setting up a system that wouldn't even get through the House of Lords? No, they wouldn't. The ID-Card system has been blacklisted for being an 'invasion of privacy', and putting speed controlling hardware in a car wouldn't fair any differently.

The speed limiters in Japan -- 180kmh or 112mph -- always seemed like a really good idea to me. I never understood why they weren't at least considered here.

Speak for yourself. I'm going on 6 years of driving and I've never been pulled over once by a cop for any reason whatsoever. Nada. Zip. No convictions, no warnings, no fines, no gatso flashes in the rear view mirror. Nil.

The police don't take the money for themselves, its mostly for the government, and the police don't put your insurance premiums up either.

Often the premium goes up as a result of national trends, and/or your decision as a driver to drive outwith the bounds of the law.

If you have an accident, you are a liability. If you are caught driving recklessly by the police, you are a liability. That's how it works.

Or, and this is a radical idea: The government could require that people take driving lessons, sit a test and prove their knowledge, competency, and ability to drive on roads. Then the government could require that people driving cars be insured in case of a genuine accident. :-D

And to go way out there on a limb, drivers could read signs that state what a maximum speed limit is, and actually realise that's the maximum they can legally go. Same with red lights. Who'd have thought red lights mean don't drive.

It really bugs me to see folk moaning about having to literally "pay" the price for being irresponsible or reckless on the road. What are you hoping will happen? Get let off the hook every single time?

You tell that to anyone that's been injured or known someone killed by a person not driving with due care and attention to the road conditions and/or their speed.

Take responsibility for your actions and you'll find society treats you fairly.
