Cheaper insurance on 'uncommon cars'

Featured Replies

Basically, i think I've had a brainwave. Using the logic, some cars are expensive to insure because they're crashed a lot by young drivers, would having something that is less appealing to younger drivers make it cheaper? I know the insurance group and all sorts of other factors come into it, but am i correct in thinking this? I've just been offered my dads old C250 TD for free, if i can insure it. If its a similar price to insuring a 1.3 jetta, i think id be stupid not to.

its not just the fact they get crashed, its the cost of parts if it does. so something unusual could be more depending how much parts are

That as it may be, but work this out...

99 Corsa 12v - £2400, parts cheap and plentiful, insurance group 2

99 Passat TDI sport - £1800, parts not so cheap, insurance group 11

wheres the logic?

Itd deffo be getting wrote off i believe, its value is sub 500. interiors had 3 years of unplanned abuse by my half brother, has a fair few dings. andits on over 200k. turbo sounds nice though

i do actually think i could blag it tbh. especially with something like I-kube, who i now find amazing due to it being so easy to avoid their restrictions.

dunno how it works i dont think anyone does, 17 starlet gt turbo insured as a import and turbo £1300 with quinn direct(was group 12 now 24), parts very expensive for insurers ( new from toyota) and £1600 for a civic eg6 vti when i was 18 ( parts are very expensive and was group 16 now 32)

The unusual cars theory would work out.

Last year I was insured on my valver (Group 10) for £650 a year.

Late last year I bought a Laguna 3.0 V6 (Group 16) and asked for a quote on the same policy, worked out at £680 a year. Only a £30 increase for a car in a much higher insurance group and alot faster etc....but its not the kind of thing anyone under 30 would even consider.

i was looking at this... was amazed to find that i can get insured on a 1.8 merc 190 for less than I'm paying on my 6n2. i'm 17. it's roughly twice the horsepower lol.

i might get one. i want to chalkboard it and draw willies all over it. dream car.

i will get one. i just need to get round to selling my beloved pablo

on insurance side, i do alot of hunting on a farm and wanked a jeep as the polo is getting wrecked off putting a manky jack russell, two ferrets, spade, nets, and dead rabbits in so quotes i got for a vitara jlx 1.6 hardtop, cheapest £1450, landrover disco 2.5ltr with rollcage and raised susp ect,£800 quid its fucking stupid they just say anything like! robbing b*****ds!

Unplug the fucker! when you plug it back in, make sure your cars in the same place you unplugged it. For an insurance company they're not too bright. a person i know had an undeclared exhaust, no mot and the tracker unpluged, they still paid out on a none fault accident.
