When I was looking at getting my last sensible commuter car it was narrowed down to 2 cars.

A 5dr Polo GT TDI130 9n or a Skoda Fabia VRS. Both the same chassis whith similar PD130 engine, both 6 speed boxes.

The Polo's were around the £8000 mark - the Skoda's around £5500.

This is what won:-

Paid £4750 for it - now around the 177-190bhp & 350lb/ft of torque

In the end it was all down to money - plus the Polo's seats were uncomfortable! (shame the VRS seats are white with 2 kids!)

Very nice, but mine's only a 1.4 16v Sport so its got the bucket type seats but not the big engine :-D

Well when i get it and I'm only paying £1000 for on 02 so all in all its a cheap nice but not nice enough looking little motor that wont be as bad on the motorway as my 1.1 106 :-)

questions answered angel eyes are available for the 9n you will need to smoke them yourself.

and you can make the two lights into one if your handy with headlight design, willing to hacksaw your car and make bespoke headlight housings etc

Yeah thanks i was thinking of cutting the little lip between the lights but might go for the 9n3 lights and convert the front end,although this has been done and i would like to do something thats unique.

Which wheels would look best? I'm thinking bbs but not sure?

You say you want to be different and yet all your questions seem to be "what looks best?".

Here's a revolutionary idea, look at the galleries here, look on eBay, look on Edition and get yourself parts you like. If you just ask everyone what their opinion is, you'll have built a car for other people rather than yourself.

if you want to spend big then make a design of a bodykit and remodel the front end then post your design to a specialist bodymaker and totally make it your own try google my mate did his pug and it totally transformed it cant remember the company but they was shit hot think he modelled his from numerous cars looked mean il try get the name if your interested? pm me

Apart from a very, very small number that are done well, i have to say i fucking hate mk4's. Almost all of them on here look the same, the dash is ugly as sin, they look dated and shitty be it standard or modded, and most now seem to be want to be jap replicas or that 'rat look' where people dont know what the fuck to do to their car so they trash it all call it art. Fuck that! The only good bit is the 16v engine fits into something earlier that doesnt look like Susan Boyle shat out after a shitty night out kebab. So yes, i'd take a 9n over one fo sho.

I think 90% of you who have commented need to get of your high horse and give the guy a break. The attitude of the longer serving members/moderators sucks the blokes new to the forum and wants a little help, if you haven't got anything constructive to say dont say anything or in the 5 minutes it takes your small brain to think of a ''witty'' reply, why not use that time to do a quick search yourself and post your finding, but wheres the amusement in that?!

i dont know about coming to the polo show and having work done on my car, but id like to meet a few faces that hide behind thier keyboards.
