Just wondering how to sort this rust myself as I'm a noob to bodywork :)

depends how bad it is.

is it so bad, that if you touch it to hard itll break away or turn into a whole?

I've dealt with stuff similar to this at work.

need beter pics or what has been said above, might have bitten away at the inner lip already.

Its not so bad that if you touch it, it comes off but I will try get a better pic tmora when its not dark :)

well if its just surface rust, what i usually do at work is sand back the effected area back to shiney metal [so its not brown and scabby] and give it a good few coats of thick 2k primer which will fill any minor imperfections and protect it.

I've done that on endless amounts of cars [including my own] and never had an issue.

you can also get a rust treater to put on before you primer it, cant remember what its called though.

obviously what ever you do, youd probably have to paint the 1/4 panel [and possibly blend the colour into the door]...unless you just want a patch of primer lol.

youll find you will have to take the bumper off no doubt the rusts crept under there aswell i find the easiest way of attacking it is with a wire wheel on an angle grinder then feather the edges with some sand paper then treat with some rust protector (like jenolite) as said before thats the only way to really hold it back without cutting and welding, as long as you dont leave it in primmer to long as its porous

the rust killer is called "krust" its about a 5er from halfords.

However you can get a polo wing from euro parts for about 20 quid so it may be easier to just get a new one and paint it than mess around with your old one.

whats best to do about rear arches me m8 got a polo 6n has had arches all sanded filled primed,paintedand done. but its coming back again. what can be done to get rid all tohether

mine are doing the exact same thing.

I'm tempted to sand all the filler out, reweld over the welds, fibre glass and then fill them.

yeah maby. its started to go bottom of rear arch near wheel were all much get in. rusty also at top of arch. rusty again. such a pain only thing that lets em down. i dunno what to do for best realy to help I'm.

i no lets car down. I'm in the right mind to get my local bodyshop to put a whole new rear quater on both sides. i no its a massive job but will stop it. dunno

tbh, the cold weather and salty roads have hit my arches and seam on the sill under the door really hard.

yeah, the rust is creeping back through on my arches too :@ i wire brushed them, skimmed them then primed/painted etc but its coming back, think it might be because i left it in primer for a while but its annoying lol, should be easy to blend though as its just a solid colour

I grinded my rear arches back, filled them, primed in 2k and painted in 2k. They have been ok for about 4 months now, but sooner or later it will start to come back.

The only way to get rid of it permently would be to weld in new metal and thats too much like hard work in my eyes.

I have noticed that the 6n's seem to have lots of rust problems tho in general

yeah this cold weather hit my car quite bad rear arches were fine untill bloody cold. now there looking rusty again. well serface rust. so anoying cos it ruiens the look

Whatever you do mate, make sure that you actually treat the rust before painting it.

What I would do:

1. Grind the paint and rust of with a wire brush attachment for an angle grinder.

2. Treat the rust with 'Rust Remedy' or something similar.

3. Prime & Paint.

If you don't treat the rust it will keep coming through the paintwork.
