My new GT

Featured Replies

Saw this advertised on the forum yesterday... Met up with the seller this morning and it was mine :)

Used to belong to 'g40jon' for a while, he gave it a fair amount of TLC. Wings have been replaced from the dealers which looks to me like they are Mk2 items, no aerial or side repeater holes which is a nice touch.

Plans include:

Headlamp washers, headlamp protectors, hella foglamps, hella grille, hella clear indicators, standard GT coupe 5.5j wheels and maybe a less noticable exhaust. May change the lowering kit for a decent one for a more comfortable ride.

Interior is very clean too which is a bonus.

See you a the RR day on the 29th!

Now for the pics:-

I don't know about the side repeater holes, but I don't think replacement mk3 wings have aerial holes in them. Mine didn't.

Looks good, esp in Indian Red.

Wings anit mk2, they have square flat tops. Most likely mk3 dealer ones because euro countries dont all use side repeaters.

will be interested to see how much power my old gt puts out. I've still got a few cans of paint left for the car if you are interested. i know the rear quater needs some love on the drivers side, as i only did a quick paintjob on it

looks like a ace car martin

vag wings dont come with side repeater holes but come with aerial hole though

(had 3 sets of genuine vag ones)

still think you should sell me the healight washers

looking sweet and very clean :D

Its painfull seeing these pictures lol gutted i had to sell but at least its gone to a good home

This is cool man!

What else do you drive?

That is a nice bready !!

Nice collection :)

The wings on this couldn't be mk2 could they, unless they have had the front of them hacked out to fit around the mk3 indicator? Pattern panels often don't have aerial holes n whatnot.

Looks nice anyway

My brother has the white mk2 breadvan, sister has the 6n 16v openair and I have 2xGT hatchbacks and a Derby :ninja:

Thanks for the comments, appreciated!

Got back to Bristol from Oxford just now, will be putting a more standard exhaust on I think... Along with a Schrick 268/268 cam!

They are definitely main dealer wings, I have the invoices for them from VW. Didn't realise MK2/3 wings were different

that looks nice martin will be ace once all the extras are on.

new genuine wings dont come with the holes martin think they have run out of the hole ones

I liiike

They have to be as the mk3 items have cut outs for the wrap around front indicator's don't they.

And mk2's Have square fronted wings and indicators in the bumper.

Lovely looking car though mate, crying out for some 13x7's if you ask me :-D

Cheers Gaz, it'll be a culmination of a load of parts i've been collecting for circa 3 years.

having owned it a few days now here are my initial plans/improvements:-

Backbox will be replaced for a stock G40 jobbie, had this setup on my other GT and it was pretty quiet at part throttle until you booted it, looks nice and standard too.

Suspension will be replaced with weitec 60/40 springs, weitec rear dampers and FK front dampers unless I get some better ones. G-laderserite ARB blocks along with Powerflex TCA bushes on new TCA's. VW topmounts too.

Wheels - probably keep the GT steels on, nice and original

May either go back to a GT AFM and airbox with K+N panel filter or fit a GT airbox to the Golf GTi AFM.

Just found the ad for this on Pistonheads and thought "Nice I might email the dude about this" then I just happened to be looking on here and see I've been well beaten to it haha.

Car looks very nice though, plans sound good too. Be nice to see how this progresses.
