So its been a while since I've been on here, some may remember my old mk3...

Since then I've had a mk2 bready that was 80% converted into a pickup truck but i lost motivation and alot of personal stuff happened, And most recently i built a mk2 coupe that i fitted with a bike carb'd AEX lump and GT box amongst a few other things. I sold that to a mate on here who then rolled it a week later after getting it fully resprayed.

So.... Yesturday, me and my mate went and picked up this fine specimen of a mk2 coupe..

Got it back to the shed and within 2 hours we had the interior, engine and wiring loom stripped out.

Then we called it a night.

Today i crawled to the shed for a play and started by ripping the dashboard out and chopping up the engine bay ready for smoothing and tucking whilst my mate chris stripped down the engine for inspection and a general clean up and rebuild.

Here you can see the firewall is gone, and I've started plating across the bulk head and plated over the fuse box hole and heater matrix hole..

Seat ibiza dash conversion "carefully" removed..

And Chris doing what he does best....trying to look busy..

We called it a day and ill carry on tomorrow evening after work.

A basic rundown of the car:

1985 polo coupe S 1.3

Fitted with a 1.4 AEX code engine and matching box.

Full respray 8 years ago in random Purple-Pink-Grey flip paint and has been sat on stand since then.

Got over £6k of reciepts, a fully stamped original service book, Mot's dating back to the 80's and 90's and even the original delivery note!

Not a bad buy for £150 i think

If my workmate can match the colour then yes, otherwise I've got 5 litres of vw violet sat here waiting for a shell to touch. The bay and insides will be going gloss white, the arches and floor pan will also be white and the engine,box etc is going semi matte black.

What's the reason behind using the AEX?

Well the first time round was purely because i needed an engine asap and i had a Ibiza sat here doing nothing so i made the best of what i had. This time round is just coincidence as this one came with the AEX already fitted. I'll be using this engine for now or an AEE, but in the log run ill be using a KR or another 16v big block, although i have been looking at diesel possibilities....

Arr right i see.

I may build something using an AEX , but there not as a strong engine as the 86c or golf equivalents.

To be fair its plenty strong enough for basic tuning, its not like youre going to run 200bhp from one is it.

they're only 60bhp iirc from standard, so a full rebuild with upgraded bits here and there wont kill it. This one will only mildly played with i.e bike carbs, a piper cam and a full exhaust system. the flywheels being picked up in a few days to be skimmed mildly and the head will be going in for some work aswell. Thats about it though. I'll save any real work for a decent sized engine that can take it.

Nice buy. This was on ebay a few months ago for about £500!

yeh it did to me aswell, but its slightly rounder and has a more "modern" look to it.

So i ripped it out anyway.
