What mods do I have to declare? Obviously anything performance wise, but what about visual/entertainment? I have just put a new CD player in my car and my insurence told me I don't need to declare it. So, if I crashed into someone I don't want them inspecting my car and voiding my policy on the CD player!

EDIT: I'm with admiral TPF&T which state that audio equipment is insured up to £1700 but that doesn't mean they couldn't void my insurence on an inspection, it surely just means that my CD player is insured against theft! Even if it is stolen, when I come to claim it back they could deny that as well as it's non-standard!

dont think a CD player would void it... just take it out if you crash?

What changes would generaly be declared if they are not a performance mod? I am intending to do install clear indicators, window tints, and de-badgering at some point in the future. My car also has alloy wheels, which have to be declared. These don't improve performance do they? (if they are slightly lighter then you could argue I suppose?) The wheels also increased my premium slightly (10%), so I guess there is some statistic about them?

I am also installing coilovers, induction filter and rear disk brakes which obviously have to be declared.

I've just taken out a policy with admiral this evening, in the email that they send you, they tell you to read this : http://www.admiral.com/policyDocs/AD116%20...y%20Booklet.pdf

In that, it states: Please tell us before: - if you are going to modify your car, even if the alteration is only cosmetic

So yeah, clear indicators/anything cosmetic that you change would have to be declared
