Mk3 Gear gaitor

Featured Replies

Hi there I've got a Mk3 Genesis, I prefer the look without the centre consol, but dont like not being able to fit a gear gaitor properly. Did any mk3s come without centre consols and will there gear gaitors fit? If not then are there any other models/makes with gear gaitrors that will clip/can be fitted into my mk3. Cheers!

Yeah 90 -94 polo "fox" ones will fit its a rubber boot shaped thing that sits over a plastic plate that just clamps over the hole in the floor. looks ok if you have a clean non holed, one makes the floor area look bigger and allows for easier humping

Cheers :) does anyone know if gaitros from different models or makes fit, as I can imagine 'Fox' gear gaitors being awkward to find!

I don't have one :(

If you have a centre console, i might be willing to swap/cash your way depending where you are in London?

The pre-facelift carpet should be the same,i know the remote box is. I've done it for the same reason, the sledge effect certainly looks retro in the MK2, i mentioned this somewhere the other day. The console is handy for 1litre drinks in the summer but you get better foot warming from the heater without it! Well in the front,anyway..

I haven't got a photo (i'll get one up tomoz) but mine is from a late '90s Daihatsu Charade. You'd think its from a Scania the size of it. The first rib is spread wide and sits under the carpet (was on top in the Daihatsu),the next sits on top and the carpet holds it tight, its the perfect size like this.

I prefer the round type like a cv boot, this is slightly squared but will do until i find one. My '83 Escort had a round type but Ford ones dont fit - there's a similar but skirtless one underneath the vinyl gatier in the Ka but its way too small to fit over the plastic mount in the floor of the Polo.

I spoil you lot with my pioneering finds..

haha i wondered about this about an hour ago..how mad.. i do prefer consoleless suits the mk2s very nicely.

Sounds intresting, swap for what? And bad news buddy but I'm in Bromley, completely other side of London from you!

Ok then, sounds intresting. Are the mk2s and mk3s the same consol-less then? I'm sure theres a metal kinda 'collar' around the gear changer when the consols removed on mine

I've just removed mine out the mk2 and my gear gaitor clipped pretty well into the hole in the carpet. looser than when in the console but still holds.

I have a mk2f coupe. I have just removed my centre console - Looks sweeet. Just need to find a way of fixing the gaitor to the floor.

Will let you guys know if I find anything.

I won't hold my breath  haha :-D

Went out and took my center console out, I then fitted a peice of carpet into the hole arround the gear stick and tucked it into the surrounding carpet then used sone interior trim adhesive to stick the oem gear gaitor back down to the floor, looks good imho nice and stok, also madesure it worked while in gears like 1st 4th and reverse and it all holds together nice
