Doesnt look like you need it, will just cause unnecessary tyre wear. Unless you're doing it for handling reasons?

If you bring it down to -80 it will naturally create some negative camber anyway.

What, at the back? Lowering it at the rear shouldn't produce camber as the wheels just move up into the arches essentially. There's no side ways movement of either the top or bottom of the wheel

At op though, don't bother, as it looks gash

I'll just leave it then ! I just though if I'm sending it down a few more mill it might look a bit better as the fronts stick out more than the back :/ I'll live thanks :D

Yeah but think about the way the wheel moves up into the arch. The wheel itself isn't actually cambered against the hub, but it looks cambered because the wheel moves up into the arch in an arc motion (if you exaggerated it).

Its more the toe that creates the tyre-wear, rather than the camber. No?

get some 15mm spacers , will look mint :)

I was talking about rear camber ! And I recon with these comments I'll just leave :lol: It will just cause silly tyre wear which is pointless all in all paying for tyres to not last as long ! I like the idea of 15mm spacers ! But I don't know what I need to do to put em on ! They do em at venom ! But don't know if I need like longer bolts or if they bolt on then my studs bolt straight into them meaning I don't need longer bolts ?!

Have you ever seen the rear of a seriously lowered car with a solid rear beam? What was once the natural toe in the car is set up with on the beam turns into quite noticeable negative camber.

Why does my car have more negative camber after lowering then? Laser alignment has proved it has more negative camber. You can tell just by looking at it!

I'm talking relative to the chassis here, not to the hub.

The same will happen in any car with an unequal double wishbone setup too.

I ran camber shims on my mk3, had them on about a year and to behonest i didnt notice the tyre wear any quicker than normal. Its the Toe that will make it wear quicker.

As for Rawse you realy dont need them mate unless your tyre is tucking up into the arch and the wheel is pokeing abit and your scrubing theres realy no need for them.

I run camber shims on my mk2 polo bready 1.5 degree negative camber it looks great and upto 3 degrees of negative camber is proven to not cause any extra tyre wear due to the slack in the tyres pressure and i needed it to clear my 7.5J weller mattigs. and lowering it does not cause any extra negative camber as the wheel just moves in an arc upwards. Its attached to a solid beam that would have to be bending to cause any negative camber unless you shim the stub axles like i have. I work with things like this every day as I'm a qualified engineer doing R & D work for various different projects some of which incorporate these sort of motions into the designs. If what you were saying was true then this would affect other everyday objects and it would have to be incorporated into their designs and i have never seen anything like that or learned of anything like it at college and I'm on my way to doing my degree in mechanical engineering at the moment.

Wow I am deffooo getting them now as that looks fuckinn acee haha! The lad who I got my classics of had a mk3 like mine ! And had it as low as mines going haha ! And they scrubbed so I'm thinking if the tyre wear isn't noticeable then it's worth spending £20 on em instead of having to get new tyres and get my arches sorted ! Haha plus you've made me realize that it looks good so might aswell haha. !

And you sound like you've thought about all this ! Makes sense cos it's a fixed frame at the back ! And would have to bend for negative camber ! So if thi has happened to anyone I'd have a look hahah

I'm doing a motorsport degree and have studied race vehicle configuration in length... also working at a company building and prepping race cars. When you lower a car whilst it's setup on laser alignment equipment, you can watch the camber angle changing! I know it is a torsion bar setup on a polo, but the beam and trailing arms are not absolutely solid, in fact they're flimsy and twisty as shit (ever noticed how sloppy the back end of a polo feels compared with other cars using a double wishbone setup?).

I grant you, the camber changes are very slight compared with a double wishbone setup or similar as the torsion bar is designed so that when the car is perpendicular to the road and the suspension is compressed by the same amount on both sides (effectively like lowering), the wheels will also stay perfectly perpendicular to the road (no camber present); but in reality, when shorter springs and shocks are used this isn't the case, as I found out when looking at the geometry of my car on a laser alignment system.

what camber shims did you use? are they doubled up or something? and what degree camber is this

My mk2 is not bent and has 0.8 degree neg camber due to being lowered 70 on the rear. You can notice this straight away when looking down the car from the back ( comparing to the fronts which are 1.4.

Mines probably got more than that and its not lowerred. It's just got a bit of sag. Sad fact of life is all mk2 and 3 polos are at least a bit bent. Its because of how lightly constructed they are.

Lowering does cause more natural camber. I Can stick up the printout from when i tracked my car for all the doubters...

All cars in general have natural rear camber and it is all different on every car as standard. When lowered the front will negative more and toe in and when heightened the front will gain positive camber and toe out, fact. But the rear will not change if using a beam system like on polos it will just keep it's natural camber and toe setting due to it's construction :) so whatever mr I done a engineering coarse blaah
