I don't get these posts when people that have only been on here a year can have an opinion on "how it used to be".

Meh, i don't have as much fun as before on here but when i can i try and lighten up the place.

Sarcasm can be wasted on the internet but half the time the ones who don't get it are jumped up little pricks.

I'm gonna reply to this one on a personal level, these are my views, not the views of the staff or the club.

Personally I think it's down to society and people's attitudes... it's all a big mess.

Back in the day our parents were taught that to survive, they had to earn their own living, use their own initiative and at least try themselves.

Sadly, this isn't the case any more, people now have the attitude that they're owed something or that they're better than a certain job, so they'll have someone else do it for them. The whole situation stinks.

People who come on here with a bad attitude instantly get the place down, they demand all the answers straight away (bump their posts every 2 minutes) and never say thanks... it's no wonder we've got no community spirit.

It's nice to see people discussing this for a change rather than the usual "CP's shit" comments, but i'm still not seeing many people volunteering to help or even providing suggestions of what might help to improve morale?

i had a different account before

thought i'd add my pennies worth, i've literally only been on here a week and already spotted two sides to the forum, i've had polite and helpful people talk to me and offer me help and i am very thankful because even though i've had cars and been modding for quite a few years on every thing from fiestas to skylines i dont really know s**t about polos and some of you do,

on the other side one of the first posts i saw was a load of people ripping someone for having a 9n and how s**te they are look rubbish etc etc, i'm not a teenager any more so i simply looked at my car smiled to myself and shrugged (i think my facelifted 9n is the nicest polo they have done) cause i know how it all comes down to taste, but i can see where a teen who has just got his first polo as a first car could take that to heart,

simple solution?

if you cant say something nice (or make your sarcasim obvious) then just dont say anything at all.

I've been on clubpolo for a little while and it's been the same... so I am kind of used to it.. Love too see what it used to be like!

we all really want to try to find a solution to this, so any suggestions are listened to and discussed within admin.

i don't want to blame the younger members of the forum but think most of the problem is with people just getting a polo because its affordable before they move onto something else, and those of us that really like and care about our cars get pissed off with the attitude especially when people don't bother to search and the same topics keep being repeated.

I fought to bring back off topic the last time, after it got closed for exactly the same reasons, unfortunately it was spoilt by the odd few and for some reason some people just seem to like antagonising the admin who are just trying to make this a nice pleasant place to be, I just want everyone to get on and like the rest of you i like the banter.

some people complained that off topic was even a bit too grown up and serious, and then on the other hand we just have shite posted and have people reporting threads that have offended them so we don't seem to be able to win!

would perhaps some kind of scale of membership work? having like 'super member' or something for £10 a year where you get to have an off topic and are given a bit more trust? or perhaps VIP members for those that have been here for a certain amount of time and proved not to be a numpty?

i really feel sorry for the people that are really enthausiastic about the club and who go out of their way to help others and i would happily back some kind of reward system if that helped restore the balance, but as everything it would be hard to implement without causing resentment among other members so i don't know what the answer is!

Since, obviously there was a difference between what people considered as off-topic, then there was the banter. Where people just ripped each other, which in my opinion was fun. It's the internet, be tough skinned and don't take it to heart.

Off topic should be brought back, just simply ban the people who abuse it from using the off topic section. I think lot of members have learnt from the past and have seen what can happen. I pretty sure it wouldnt be abused like it was in the past.

Off topic's been deleted and come back 3 or 4 times now. It never works and I even stickied a topic stating that it was the last time we'd be trialling it and not to abuse it or it'd go for good... I got ignored :(

From axing the off topic section because the topics were too off topic, to people being told to get a different car.

Owners clubs are supposed to be enthusiastic about their cars, and work with in or around the limitations of the vehicle, not just give in.

I have to agree with this, I've been on here a fair while and have noticed the same thing. I was kind of put off from posting since day one partly because of this, and partly because I've never owned a polo.

I do however like polos, and I love the massive knowledge base there is amongst some of the members of here. On how to get the best out of the small block engines, forced induction, and plenty of other things

And caused offtopic to be closed. When the thing in offtopic would have happened elsewhere if offtopic wasnt there. So it, as such, had nothing to do with offtopic. Yet it caused it to be closed.

I saw everything that happened in that thread, and in no way was Craig in the wrong...

Obv there are boundaries, but i never saw anything in there that was pushing them/past them.

As I've said before... you all agree that the club is for its members, yes? So taking away something that 90% of the members want just seems stupid IMO.

I also think it needs to be said this is a site on the internet, not a work or school area where there are HR guidelines and everyone is shitscared of being offended. Its the real world, people say and do shit that others don't like, and unfortunately you just have to deal with it. This is called life.

If it ever came back i think it needs to be defined clearly that short of things which are clearly not cool like racism or child porn, you venture into the off-topic at your own risk and if you don't like it, then deal with it. Mods aren't here to change nappies nor should they try get involved in that manner. People always make digs and if you can't take it then don't go back to a thread! The way i see it if you want the rest of the forum to be pristine and offtopic free then the specific section for offtopic has to be a little like those rough-as-shit pubs where everyone eyeballs you for walking in. If you dont have the balls to walk to the bar then you probably should turn around and walk out. Thats not to say that its also okay for people to sell spanish rolling baccy at 5 for a tenner though

This applies to moderating it as well as posting in there. Some people are more easily offended than others and its up to them to filter what offensive material they wish to expose themselves to. I know people who find shit like shameless offensive, but they dont watch it each week going 'I can't believe they show things like this', they make a choice to watch something else. You can't just take shameless off air because a few don't like it, and the same here. if you don't like where a threads going no-ones forcing you to click and read it, its up to you to simply avoid that material. I think heavy handed moderating for the easily upset types has caused some of the bad atmosphere. Its not a kids forum and part of growing up is learning to deal with the shit you don't like!

For reference, I was the last person to ban craig. He was running two accounts, one of which was being deliberately inflammatory and "wasn't him" even though the IP matched, along with the spelling and grammar errors.

But that's not actually why he got banned, that was why he got politely asked by myself more than once to sort it out. He didn't and to cut a long story short, he got banned.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like deleting stuff and kicking people off the site, but similarly, I don't like being treatted like an idiot, having my time deliberately wasted, and given abuse, so if someone does that, they're gone.

some of the old threads where they went off at an absolute tangent would have me in absolute tears of laughter, and newbies would sometimes join in and realise its a fun place.

I've met some awesome people on here, and will continue to frequent. theres always been dross on the forum, but amongst the myriad of generic questions, theres a feck load of techie talk!

I'm afraid I've lost the faith too......................gone are the days when I used to laugh so hard I would ache, when stuff would just go random.

But sad times, Panda once told me someone reported me for doing mhy once monthly bump of a thread from back in the dark ages, pure humour for those who looked for my shamless bumps & completly harmless??

Shame really I've had some good times here, again I'll become a non member myself & judging by the amount of people loosing their "green" member status, it looks like either other people are also deciding to float around the forum or going elsewhere.
