cheer's for the offer lads but there's really not a lot to do, what does need doing is going to be spread out over a few weeks as and when i get a chance. once it's done we should get a road trip on to some where interesting tho? rather than just standing around poking a 30 year old chevette

got some potential this mate! really like it, love seeing something different> out of interest..what suspension setup would you use for decking it? doubt venom motorsport sell coilovers for 1 of these

lowering is going to be a bit of a nightmare, the kits are stupid prices (looking at around 180 for shocks, 110 for springs), the kits that are available off the shelf are -40 and -60

this is -60mm on the rear and it's on 15's

16032010008.jpg

the 15's i'm going to be running also have stretched tires so i'm gonna need a lot more of a drop than 60 to pull them off.

i have noticed that the shocks are the same design as early polo/mk1 golfs, although i haven't done any measurements yet. i'm gonna have a look tomorrow and offer up some thing up and see whats what, i might be able to knock up some cheap slamming yet, watch this space ;)

i've been on there for like 2 years mate, by far the best car forum i use, the car's for sale section is like Aladdin's cave but with cheap cool old motors instead of gems and gold

i've had a good poke around the car today, ordered two new sills for it and drained 12 liters of dead 4 star from the tank. i also found that it has an alarm fitted which is quite possibly the coolest one i've ever seen, proper 80's futuristic kinda thing.

i got no fob or owt with it tho but i've just found another full set up on ebay that i might have a punt on just for some retro protection

ebay link.

Aint that car got a Rover v8 in?

the second one i posted has yes mate, it was just to show the rear arch gap when lowered -60mm, it belongs to a lad off the chevette owners club

actually i think it's either just been featured in ppc or is going to be soon

x2 spend most my time on there now, no kids mucking things up

I almost bought an Opel Kadett on 13" ATS classics instead of my Polo as my first car - but my mate bought it instead. Fast-forward just over a decade and we've both still got 'em, though the Kadett's in a fairly sorry state!

What motor's in the Shovette? From memory it's a rare Mk1 Manta 'box that you need to drop an XE lump straight in.

got any plans for an engine conversion or anything?

it's just a 1300 with 58 raging horses trying to fight there way out

i've only done a bit of reading up on the xe conversion so far, but the wish list goes some thing like, 1.8 mante gte engine mounts, sump, gear box, rear axle and a prop shaft from a manta automatic. apparently this make's it pretty much bolt in.

i'm gonna do more home work on it and i'm gonna start collecting the bits needed as and when they pop up, but it's not some thing i'm looking at doing any time soon. i wanna concentrate on sorting the wheels and stance and doing the body work possibly ending with a respray in black. the sooner i can get it on the road as a daily the better so i can sell the mk3 and start on 16v'ing the mk2

there's some great build threads on there too, some one's always doing some thing interesting to some thing you don't see any more. i was reading one the other day with a lad rebuilding and tuning a puch peddle and pop 8-)

spent some time on it today

at some point this has had a new sill skin put on it, but instead of doing it properly they decided to smash the rotten sill in with a hammer, then weld a skin over the top of it, and trust me i use the term weld very loosely :retard:

so i cut off the skin and the cut the left overs of the original sill out too

original sill

all cut out

220120111247.jpg

to get to the end of the sill tho i had to take off the wing, can any one spot the issue with this pic?

220120111246.jpg

yep thats a very big hole in the inner wing leading straight into the passenger footwell that i hadn't seen. also the top of the inner wing has rotted in places and once i started poking i found another hole

220120111248.jpg

220120111251.jpg

all easy enough to sort tho

and one last pic of how it looked by the time lack of daylight got the better of me

220120111252.jpg

been let down with the cuttie cutters i was hoping to get for it but been offered some mims for it now so gonna trail fit one to it tomorrow ans see how they sit.

i've also won a set of the older sunken headlights on ebay, just waiting for them to turn up, they look a lot better than the flush ones originally fitted to this imo

mint, your a legend for starting work on this so soon, cant wait to see it!!

  • Author

so soon? mate we were on it as soon as we got back from picking it up

main delay in any real progress has been waiting for the sills and it being pitch black by the time i get home from work each night, i've literally been itching for the weekend to get back on it, i need a house with a garage like yours :-(

gazebo and some extension leads lol.

Wheres the denzel gone?

  • Author

the jetta is parked (read dumped) on the old dears front garden until the chev is on the road, then the mk3 will be sold and the mk2 will come out of the garage to be 16v'd leaving a space in the garage for the jetta to rest.

just thought of a gay name for the chevette (you know how people make up gay names for their builds)... CHEVvy chase!

i'll get my coat

Surely Rusty?
