Ancient car insurance claim

Featured Replies

Hi,

Had an accident in November 2009 (i know, it's ages ago!) reported it to Insurance (not police as guy said he'd pay at road side then when i got quotes he changed his mind...)

Basically, just called them for an update and they say they are looking to close claim by end of the month / first week in feb - nothing has been paid out and i still have a damaged car (TPFT insurance) so i've effectively paid them £1.5k on a 1.0 6n2 (standard :ninja:) for sweet F/A?

my question is - as i've had to declare accident (at fault - when i'm not but has to be put as fault until proven otherwise) this year which put my insurance up, if claim falls through (fingers crossed) and i get my no-claims back (which they have said i will) would i be entitled to a refund of some money for my current insurance with it being such a long time since it was taken out (current insurance was taken out in May 2010 for 12 months)

and will i have to declare accident in the future?

Thanks in advance

Sorry if this is a re-post but couldn't find anything...

Yes, you will get a refund.

Yes you have to declare the accident in the future. If you win in your favour; your insurance will still rise. Insurance companies claim that once you have had a crash, statistically you are more likely to crash again. it's something like a 15% rise.

but if it gets closed with no money paid out...?

therefore, no win or loss...

Also i think them statistics are stupid...

once you've crashed once, surely you'd be less likely to crash again as you know what to look for...!

anyway, if it's 1.5k for 3 years running, i'm walking to work. all 7 miles of travel, incl hard shoulder of m-way!

7 miles?? it'd probably be cheaper getting a taxi to work every day.

yep 7 mi.

and a taxi would be more expensive on a per-day basis but on insurance, it would be cheaper but then that means having no car... so i'll just stick with insurance and having a car :D
