Hi i'm new so please do go easy on me. i want to hook up my i-pod to the rcd200 stereo in the polo. i've been searching around and there are loads of different products but I'm not sure if they are compatible with my stereo. here are a couple items if you could just confirm which of these will work or if you could show me where i can get a adapter which will work it will be much appreciated. thanks

You sure you wouldnt rather get an fm transmitter? That just plugs into the cigarette lighter and then into your ipod. It essentially takes the sound output from your ipod and converts it into a short range radio signal, so you just tune the radio to pick up the frequency its transmitting on. Sorry I've probably made that sound more complicated than it is! Plug it in to car, plug it in to ipod, tune car radio to right station, drive! Saves going through all the hassle of taking headunit out and can be used in any car too (which has a radio in it!) Have a search on ebay for 'ipod car transmitter' can get them for less than a tenner!

thanks for the reply Dan i know what your on about, i'm worried about the sound quality with these FM transmitters? do you know if they're any good?

erm, it depends how much you spend to be honest! The quality will never be anything better than a strong radio signal though which is ok for most people. If you are aiming for high quality sound though then you will be looking at an adaptor as in your OP. Either this or you could get an after market headunit with a built in aux in. Cables for these are really cheap (think i got one for a quid somewhere!) and 2nd hand headunits can be had for as little as £30 (which is around what those adaptor cables were gunna set you back anyway!!) In fact I've got an old headunit in my garage with an aux input on it, CD player tends to eat cd's though, but i never used cd's so didnt bother me!

The sound quality will improve with an aftermarket headunit as well, twin them up with some cheap 2nd hand speakers (i brough some infinity ones for £20 the other day!) and the sound system will be well and truly on its way!!

i've actually got a sony head unit lying around somewhere at home with the aux output built in, i just wanted to keep the dash standard OEM i just think the aftermarket stereo looks a bit out of place. Do you happen to know where i can get an adapter that will work with my RCD200? i'm also looking to get new speakers my polo doesn't have rear speakers :@

Of the links you've posted above, definately NOT the first one! Maybe the second one (although I'm getting a description of some sort of heater in the 'product description' so cant figure out for sure! I think the last one will fit if your car is before 2005, if it is 2005> have a look at this: Clicky! Best bet is to get the headunit out and have a look at the connections on the back. By the looks of it the adaptors are using a 'cd changer emulator'. This basically makes the head unit think you've got a cd changer plugged in, when it is in fact your mp3 player/ipod. I'm pretty sure the RCD200 is made by blaupunkt so should be fine.

this should do the trick

TBH when your driving along the "FM transmitter style" unit would be more than adequate, the road/wind noise etc would negate any of the full audio spectrum, it's short fall might be noticed when your parked up and have no external audio interferance's
