i see so it's nowhere near 2%, but if you read it carefully its not 22% either. they will also have to pay income tax on how ever much they officially get paid, i guess it's safe to say that the bulk of their wages would be going to the offshore account which they are paying 22% on (or according to that 28% for mr rooney). but they are still going to also pay the correct percentage on what they are officially being paid by the club, guess that differs from player to player as there is no mention of figures in that link, but it's very safe to say that all in premiership players don't pay 2% income tax, even with this screw it's very far from it infact.

Basically PAYE tax sucks balls big time. Us mugs that have 'normal' employment contracts get stung. It's not just the footballers that are taking advantage of the current tax rules... In the automotive industry (and many engineering industries) you can earn a lot more money by working as a contractor rather than a permanent employee. The company don't have to give you paid holidays, sick pay, pension etc. and can hire/fire at will - so they'll pay more for a contractor than a permie.

So, you set up your own Limited Company, and use that company to sell your services to your employer at say £30/hour rather than the £15/hour they'd pay you as a permanent employee. Your own company then pays you national minimum wage, so you don't pay much tax through PAYE. Your company therefore earns shitloads. You can then take a cash dividend from the business, and whilst this is taxable, you won't pay more than 25% tax on that - unless you're taking over £150k a year in dividends. No national insurance to worry about, and you avoid the 40% tax band. Kerrr-ching!

Other cunning tricks include claiming 40p/mile for driving to and from work, claiming a subsistence allowance for lunch etc, buying mobiles/laptops on the business etc. etc.

contracting is the way forward, my mates dad does it. bought a prius, claims the mileage back so effectively free business motoring. another way I've been told is pay yourself a shit wage, then give yourself a whopping bonus.

I'm getting around 80-90 miles to 15 quid in the G and was getting 110-120 in the mk2 16v. i miss the days of 10 quid = 100 miles. i dont like carrying loads of fuel about and i like working with round numbers. grrr!

and on the topic of the original post, I've not bought fuel from esso since i started driving as back then they werent (and probably still arent) investing a penny in renewable energy sources and BP are always the most expensive petrol stations out there, robbing bastards.

morrisons superunleaded was tested last year and it was reported to have had bio-ethanol but i can never find one near me that sells super, so i just use tesco for 99 momentum and rake in the clubcard points. 10 quids worth of points (about 675s worth of spending) gets you like 40 quids worth of vouchers for munch from fatty resteraunts so you and some mates can feast like kings but pay like paupers.

as for the reports in the papers, i take it all with a pinch of salt, plenty of tax evaders out there and people are quick to blame migrants for excess claims etc and mass tax evasion, when really is the people like bankers, politicians etc, who really commit the heanous tax evasions and get away with millions of pounds collectively. in a capitalist world, its the savvy man that wins, as theres so many legal loopholes and workarounds, that its all effectively fucked, we doomed but its all good the worlds ending next year

It's around 123 to 125 around here. The prices seem to change every day but Morrisons is usually the cheapest. I've been reduced to having to walk short distances and only drive to Uni now . I want to be obese damnit.

€1.51.9 over here in Ireland atm.works out at just over 6.5 litres to a tenner. Thats getting me about 40 miles in the gt. i miss my Tdi. :(
