Hi everyone,

After purchasing my polo, I've decided to upgrade the current stock rims, which are 14", to something a bit more sporty and something a bit bigger.

After going to Halfords and being lucky enough to take some wheels out the shop to put against my car to see the clearance, I'm not that sure that these rims will fit.

The rims i am looking to put on are only 15" so theres not a massive difference between the stock and these new ones, but before parting with £400 i want to have some kind of assurance that these wheels should fit on snugly without the need to change any springs.

You can pick up a nicer set of 15 or 16in Polo alloys for that money - have a look on Ebay. Or keep your eyes on the classifieds on here, people are always offloading their stock alloys.

Personally I wouldn't buy any alloys from Halfords; they need to look everything up in a book, and have no savvy whatsoever. Go to WHSmiths, pick up a copy of Performance VW, and look at the ads - there are much better wheel dealers out there.

I know modifying a car is down to personal taste, but i hope you get some mild inspiration from pvw/golf+ etc. Anything to stop people buying the amazingly crap ripspeed alloys for sale in halfords is a good thing!

You've hit the nail on the head there - difference between tasteful & rancid!

My Polo is coming along nicely - OEM 15in 5 spoke alloys with 195/50-15 rubber (£200 from a fellow forum member), Powerflex'd front end (£70 from Demon Tweeks), decent stereo, retrofitted OEM central locking, etc etc. There are wiser ways to spend your money than at Halfords.

just to answer your question youl get 18's on a 9n3 depending on et and tyre size.. i have a set of bbs rw for sale in sale section 17's...

I have bought some 18 inch wheels and they are 215/35zr18 84w XL. I have a polo 55 plate 9n3.

Will they fit?

Go with 16" or 17" 15's are a bit too small and 18's are a but too big

So they won't fit?

My car isn't lowered or anything

Physically ... Yes they will fit if they aren't too wide or are the wrong stud pattern etc

If you're intending to lower it a fair but the best size wheels to get it sitting nice are 16's or 17's but if you just want some alloys and don't want to lower it they will be fine as long as the tyres aren't too big but you'll have a fair amount of ground clearance
