I was reversing at work and lightly clipped the bumper of a Nissan Micra 2001 or 2002 model on december the 23rd, i spoke to the owner and we both agreed that that we would get it fixed without going through insurance, the car had been hit in the same place on the bumper before and been repaired which made it very weak and the light clip made the big dent which was there before come back. she went to a garage she knows and got a quote of £250 which i no way could afford with the price of my insurance and think it is overpriced so i am not paying it.

I just want to know what options i have and if there is anyway i could avoid paying at all (I don't like this person anyway lol)

Don't be a cock and pay her. You hit her, you sort the damage. £250 is cheap compared to insurance premium increases after an accident. How would you feel if somebody hit your car and tried to get out of paying for it to be fixed? She's already doing you a favour by settling out of insurance.

Make sure you get a signed receipt from her saying that the payment was to settle the damage though.

Yep, you'll be paying either her or through your insurance when she puts the claim through, your choice!

If you think the quote is excessive ask her to get one from another garage, make sure they are written quotes so you can compare them

you should pay, it may be over priced but its cheaper than your future insurance premiums if you claim.

why don't you ask her to take it a garage you trust.

maybe use this as a lesson to be more careful on carparks

make sure u get a signed receipt that this will b the end to the case, so she cant take it any further, defo get that, call up consumer direct as they usually ave standard legal type letters

dont just hand her the cash and walk off

It's not that i wanna get out of it, its the fact she is the sort of person who would try and rip me off i wouldn't put it past her, I'm going to take some pictures of the damage and go to some local garages and see what they think, to be honest it will be heaps cheaper just to find her a whole new bumper in the right colour

pay up, avoid insurance and get a reciept, theres no time limit. if you pay and dont get a reciept she could sting you twice.

personally the 250 will be cheaper than your increase in premiuems with a fault claim, as itll sting you for 5 years!

tbh if she wants to rip you off she would go through insurance some places will give her £100 or more if she gives them the work and she will get a hire car for the time her car is getting repaired and you lose your no claims.

she didn't ask you to drive into her car, man up and take responserbility for your actions. Whether you think 250 is expensive or not is irrelivent, that is the price she wants to not go through the insurance. The chances are that she wants to go there as she knows and trusts them, she might even be getting it cheaper and pocketing some of the cash but so what if she is?

It isn't a question of is 250 expensive for the repair, the question is are my no claims worth paying 250 quid to save?

Its your choice mate but i'd say she's done you a massive favour by even giving you the chance to save your no claims tbh
