What is the ruling on number plate size?

... i'm talking legal font, legal size, just cut-down plates....

Isn't it something like you have to have an 11mm gap around the letters for it to remain legal?

yeh theres a minimum distance bewteen letters and a maximum, not sure about shortened plates - i have a feeling its not legal but then you cant have bigger plates - such like the rover 75's have those weird curvy plates so I'm unsure - i think if you got to the mot official website it has the rules about everything inc number plates
