Featured Replies

just got back in with my new toy. its a p reg vw polo loon. 1.6. mot till june for £200. needs some work as it slid into a kerb. easy to see why when you look at the tyres all like racing slicks an 1 has the canvas showing lol oh one good thing it has vw in the number plate.

2, fix the arb and wish bone plus anything else that broke

3, fit the alloys i had on my old car. tsw 15" with 196 50 tyres

parts I need. ( can you help ? )

1, coilovers ( will 6n ones fit ? )

5, drilled and grooved disks and good pads

6, roll cage

all fitted

started on the drivers side back coilover

003-9.jpg

004-6.jpg

still got to put the top nut on. oh and the rear coilovers are alot shorter than standard springs by a good 4" so it should sit very low

I talked my mate at kwik fit to swop my 14" slicks over to some steels I got for a tenner off a guy on club polo

001-7.jpg

002-10.jpg

got to clean the slicks up as they have over spray on them

also I have some very wide drag slicks that are 13" so I am having 2 wheels banded for them. the only prob is there is a waiting list for the wheels so I have to wait for my turn

Very interesting topic, keep us well updated, cannot wait to see the end result.

where did you get the cold air intake filter from and the top hat? :) looking like a nice project so far..

  • Author

top hat is standard vw that was on the car. the air box I got off ebay. it came off a Honda. if you can get the box you can buy all the alloy bits to make your own. the honda one fitted with no probs at all

update for you all

got the drivers side rear coilover fitted and pulled all the iner arch liner out. then put the slick wheel on

then I had a look at the front brake as it was sticking on alot. I pushed the piston in the calliper as far as it would go but it will would not go in anymore. so for now I have put the old disc back on. I will trim a small bit off the pad as they are new. only need about 2mm to take off. I will do this next time I have that side jacked up. I fitted the slick on the front to see if it all fits ok

after that I backed the loon in and jacked it up and got the wheels off to have a look and to get it ready to start putting the coilover on that side

the good news is after it slid into a kurb before I got it is that it is all ok and it was just the tracking that was out ( alot lol )

anyway here are some pics

002-11.jpg

003-10.jpg

I had to get a new tyre for my 15" alloys

001-9.jpg

I won 6 tyres on ebay for £10.50 and the old boy I got them off drove a hour to bring them to me. I said I did not mind picking them up but he said he would bring them. I offered to pay some more but he said no.

2. 230 x 13"

002-12.jpg

2. 130 x 13"

003-11.jpg

2. 205 65 13 road tyres

006-2.jpg

as you can see my kalos was full so I had to take them to my lock up

005-6.jpg

009-1.jpg

you can see why I work on my cars at my aunts place lol

007-3.jpg

008-1.jpg

001-10.jpg

002-13.jpg

oh and yep I have to find more room in my lock up for even more wheels and tyres.

3 off the well had it wheels that came on the car. ( they will get banded to 8" wide )

I then pulled all the parts from the passenger side front ready to paint the hub and wishbone and fit the last coilover. I also pulled the back box off and took it to a mates work shop for him to cut up and fit my back box as a favour as I am helping him put a vr6 engine into his 6n. Also as I was there I used his bench sander to take 2mm off my brake pads as they are to tight with my new discs

took my camera aswell but forgot to get pics. so you will have to look at a empty wheel arch lol

010-1.jpg

007-4.jpg

004-9.jpg

also the arb drop link snaped

011-1.jpg

tomorrow if I am well and not to ill I will get the parts painted and get all the plastic iner arch liner out

I am also looking at getting some clear plastic to make some windows. so I may make a start on striping the inside out

oh also my mate that is making the roll cage can not do it till after the fast show. that is a pain but he is doing it on the cheap for me £180 for a 6 point made to fit cage. he is doing it for cost price if I help him. I would do it my self but I dont have the room for a tube bender

all the interior is out and the side glass from the passenger side has been took out. gave the hub and wishbone a 2nd coat off paint

I have got the new brakes, track rod end , arb drop link and coilover fitted and the car back on all 4 wheels. I have set the coilovers as low as they will go

made a start on the plastic windows but the stuff I have is to thin. 1 window out off 3 made it on the car as the rest cracked befor they was all cut out.

also made a start on cutting the iner sides off the doors to make them lighter and to cut my dash in half. I dont need a glove box lol

did not get alot off pics as my battery is flat on my camera

here is the inside

013-2.jpg

also I took it for a test drive and it goes well

are the slicks really nessarsay on a 1.6?

Engine conversion time

  • Author

slicks will give more grip on a track day so I can keep the power on. so I can get the most out off the 1.6. I will blow it up at some point and a bigger engine will go in. the 1.6 will be good for now so I can set the car up and get use to the car over time

I live near santa pod and the slicks will get used there most off the time

  • 3 weeks later...

is this the 75hp model? I've got the 100hp and I'm after a cold air box, where did you get yours.

nice going so far.
