Right, Car is a 1.4 16v p reg (1997). It apparently has standard remote central locking. Battery ran dead at the weekend and the key fob needs reprogramming but i did not get the manual from the last owner on how to do this.

I do not have a spare key and i've searched for 4 days now looking for the solution other then "key in ignition, lock door with spare key, press key fob" as this isn't possible??

I've been told pressing the door pin down while in the car and window open (to hold fob outside the car at same time) works? but to no avail?!

Anyone have a standard remote and knows how to reprogramme??

Just thought I would follow up on this as I managed to find a solution.

The key Fob I have is a Scorpion 918. It comes standard on some VW cars registered around the 95-97.

(in case your viewing this in the future and the above image is now broken, the Fob is long and black, has VW written across the top near a red LED (on mine the lettering had completely rubbed off). It has horizontal groves in the middle of the large plastic area. It has two square buttons side by side underneath the LED. The left one is often more worn down then the right.) It may have white lettering on the back with a Licence number. Also, the right side has a slide switch that goes up and down and the left has a small 3 pin socket.)

To resync the fob....

First make sure the battery is OK within the Fob.

Disconnect your car battery.

Turn ignition to ON.

Reconnect the battery (you will hear the car start making noises as the electric starts to kick in).

Then turn the ignition OFF.

Now hold down the buttons on the Fob for 10seconds (the LED will be lit on the fob, and after ten seconds if you look closely it fades slightly.)

The Car's indicators should blink a few times and then possibly lock.

Your done :)

(when holding down the Fob button, I can't remember for sure but I think I had to hold down both buttons for ten seconds. Holding down just the left button didn't work first time round for me.)

I hope this helps somebody out because it took me a week to find out what brand of alarm it was and then another week of constant searching to work out how to do it.
